Update Notes: I took out the color by accident, but that same accident reduced the text count by sixty-something percent. I do check back time to time and love to see all the great work still being done here. Updates will come when they do; keep it up guys and gals!

Please only post completed tutorials. Please do not post asking for help, or saying that you will be making a tutorial in the future. Thanks.

Hey, does anyone know how to make scythes? I created a character, and she has a scythe for a weapon. It's a bit complex,, the patters, but I dun need help with that part, I just need to learn how to make the scythe itself.

07-09-2006, 07:09 PM
Mizuhaki, I added that tutorial to the list. Good Eye!

Souzousei kaish, I would look through Featherweight's katana tutorial or Zabuza Sword Tutorial, and adapt their construction method to your sythe needs. I have seen a sythe tutorial floating around somewhere but I don't think I have a link to it. It would be under something like "The Guilty Gear thread". Good luck.

What about a Tutoral for wings? Angel wings...devil wings....retractible wings? I see various comments and threads spread out a good bit on the forums, but no real "Click HERE to buy THESE wings." or "THIS is how to make THESE wings."

Yeah, but because it's not mine or on these boards, it probably shouldn't be added to this thread without permission. Besides, Yoshiii has their own thread pertaining to their particular situation, which won't really be helped by the tutorial I posted.

emraldalchemist & everyone else: All tutorials are welcome and encouraged!

08-24-2006, 01:45 AM
Feel this should be said (maybe even put in the first post), this thread is NOT to ask for help, it is NOT to say you're going to make a tutorial in the future. What this thread is for is to easily find (for those of you who are too lazy to use the search, and to make life easier for the rest of us) tutorials which are scattered on this forum. This thread is also to post links to your own tutorials, or tutorials you happen to find that you think should be added to the list.

Since this is the first thing people see and probally check out when they come to the props forum, i would really suggest that we put in nice big letters at the top something about "USING THE SEARCH." It is amazing how many people i see asking questions that have been asked a million and a half times on the forums lol

Regarding the people asking about wing tutorials - there probably wouldn't be much demand for it, but I could write up how I made my Haibane wings if people wanted. However, they're different than ordinary bird-wings/angel-wings/bat-wings/devil-wings, so the technique wouldn't really be applicable for anything other than Haibane wings - it'd be pretty narrow and specific.

I posted an "Instructible" on making a good, cheap, upgradeable vacuum former using your kitchen oven and vacuum cleaner.

One distinctive feature of this system is that the frames let you mix and match edge lengths to make different-sized (and -shaped) frames for different projects. (Matching gaskets on tape-down sheets are interchangeable.) That not only saves plastic, but generally gives better results.

Here's a little movie of the kitchen setup in action:

You can make a standalone oven for the vacuum former for less than $30, using a two-burner hot plate and disposable aluminum pans. (That way you're not stuck in the middle of your kitchen.)

You can also add a high-vacuum system that gives you better detail for thick plastic for under $50.

All that stuff and more is linked at my new Vacuum Former Plans site, www.VacuumFormerPlans.com

Back from the Dead with an Update!

Everything before this post has been added and/or corrected! As always let me know via post/pm if there are wrong or broken links.

Please take note:

Please DO post completed tutorials/how-to's here.
Please do NOT post requests here.

Thank you.

Also, as noted in the first post, we have reached our 10,000'th character and can no longer extend the text. Due to this I will be making an On-Site, Off-Site, and Materials tutorial pages. When they are made the first post will be reduced to a hub in which to send you to the respective lists. I will state this again in BIG BOLD TEXT for those without eyes to see.

Thanks for all of your hard work! Everyone keep it up.

*Last Updated: 1/7/08*

UPDATE: The tutorial List has reached 10,000 characters (the post limit). My next update will put Material/Onsite/Offsite Links in their own threads.

Just a suggestion you can delete "tutorial" and other play on words, journal etc after every single tutorial since in the catagories On site and off site you already state that they all are tutorials and you'll probably have another 500+ characters to play with

Alkelie - Listen to Beryl, and ALWAYS try a search before posting.

Shdowlink, Laini, Animeshia, Christophine - I will be making / updating the list soon.

Cuddles116 - I realize that I have a lot of fluff in the list, like I just said, I'll be going through consolidating the list soon. Thanks for the tip.

Its nice to come back and see everyone still posting helping tutorials and that we are at 45,000 views! Keep up the wonderful work.

I've just made a new off-site tutorial, that shows how to scale props. to your own size, and how to find the length of different angles of the prop. on a picture on your compute.

The tutorial also contains a calculator, which makes it simple and easy to find the result, without having to use a common calculator. This calculator is also a lot faster to use, than a common one.

I think it's a very original ideer, and very useful for planing a cosplay too.

- I hope people will find good use of it.

10-16-2008, 12:23 PM
I stumbled across this forum somehow and there's some pretty interesting stuff in there if you dig for a while http://www.thedentedhelmet.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22

11-18-2008, 05:19 AM
Martin Dilling-Hansen has made a program which is based on my old scaling tutorial, which will be hosted on Drakkashi's Domain!
This is a calculator which helps you compare the size of a cosplay prop. to your own size, so that you may scale the size of the prop. correctly with your own size. It is also useful, if you need to know the length of a certain piece. The calculator should be simple for everyone to use.

The calculator still isn't finished yet, and the corrent version is still missing some functions and has a few minor errors which will be fixed soon. Some of the planed functions for the calculator is a save and load function, which alows the user to save a picture with all the calculated numbers and notes attached to it. The Picture Information function will also show all essential information about the imported picture. Some functions will be added to Settings eventually.

The link to the tutorial is stil the same: http://www.drakkashi.com/tutorials.html

The corrent version is v.0.5, and all further updates will be found on the link above.

Just pointing out, the Sailor Moon/Usagi Odango tutorial is a dead link o_o

This list isn't really updated anymore (like since January), so I doubt it'll be fixed. I'm thinking maybe we should make a new thread or something. I might do so, since I'm on here frequently and have been for over 5 years, doesn't look like I'm going anywhere. XD I need to talk to a mod about it though.

11-20-2008, 04:36 AM
I still pop on here and there, just never actually sit down to update all the dead links and add the new ones. I'll make it a point to spend an hour or so later today making some headway.

EDIT: I finished catching up. Only took 2.5 hours O.o
All the dead links are gone (checked 'em by hand), and I added in all the tutorials up to this post. No promises on when I'll be back again, but I do pop on here and there to check on things. ^_^

Keep up the amazing work everyone!

I definitely agree, but it's being a pain right now. Especially since I don't have great flexibility to accurately wrap and measure the fabric around my feet. xD And it takes longer than other tutorials.

Awesome! You found a feathered wing tutorial that is something like I have used before, and it works quite well. It would have been nice to have a little more support, but using that white netting thing that people use to knit is what I used for wings and it worked. woot!

There was an offsite tutorial on how to make plasic gems that I was very fond. But it's been apprently taken off the list and I can't for the life of me remember what it's called or where it was. Anyone have any ideas?

PS. I know that there are already gem tutorials up, but as I said, I'm really fond of this tutorial because of the fact that it was less expensive(after some resreach) then the ones that was currently up.

Thank you!

I'm on like, the 17th/18th step (the one where you start applying the 3D fabric paint) and I'm wondering, do you do that on the side WITH the sheet/glue or on the other side? x: Which side is going to be the final "in" and "out"? Thanks! <3

Has anyone updated the parent thread lately?

If the OP's too busy I wouldn't mind doing it, if I had permission to. :)

EDIT: No one's edited parent since 2008.... I'm going to make a new one incorporating all information from the original thread, and reorganize it a little. I'll be updating throughout the week, slowly getting everything in from all the posts following the parent.
