cool...

say, on the second disc.. the "According to Plan" feature. At the very end they are wrapping the 'last day' of filming (before going back for the stuff they filmed this year..) and you see Will, and Elizabeth in their AWE outifts, as well as Barbosa.

And i have still yet to actually watch the movie. I tried tonight but I got distracted by watching it in french (Liem picky picky, Liem lily pussy *snicker*) and then the second disc features.

I just thought of this. Has anyone thought about making the picture of Davy Jones' key on the cloth. I might just do that.

Did it. I brought it with me to Mickey's Halloween Treat at Disneyland but put it away eventually. My idea was to ask kids that came up to me and ask them if they have seen this while showing them the key....of course it was actually hanging around my neck. It worked well on my nephews....!

Didn't think Disney Management would have taken it very well!

Aye, I'm most definatley thinking about making some props, like the key cloth. I've been keeping my eye out for a good material to make it out of though.

I'm "waiting for the opportune moment" to make the thing... as it were. ;)

Hehehe. That's cool. Though what I'd probably do is find people who are wearing it (I have actually seen people just on a daily basis wearing them).

On the same note... if I ever find them, I'd definatley pick on the people who wear the aztec gold necklaces too.

"Where did you get that?"

"At a shop at Disneyland"

"They didn't per chance mention the side effects eh?"

Phantom Pirate

I get that all the time when I wear my Aztec Gold- which is an actual, screen-used prop. I'm so proud of it!

People ask me: Do you turn into a skeleton in the moonlight? I always come up with some inventive answer, my favorite being: *evil grin* Wanna come over tonight and find out?

On a side note, I want to go to that Pirates and Princesses event SO bad. I *am* the pirate princess!

Alrighty kids. I need some advice.

I know there are plenty of people who have successfully made some awesome jack sparrow costumes.

my father, is now officially obsessed with POTC, he bought a hat at disney, and has literally been wearing it everywhere.

He wants me to make him a jack costume. Id like it to be done by the premier. So, give me your tips, tricks, links and anything that will get going in the right direction the fastest.

Thanks! <3

There's still some debate, but I think this is the general conclusion to what people think the trinkets are.

Chicken Foot
Animal Skin/Fur
Vertebra
Red Mermaid/Siren Trinket

Unfortunately I don't have particularly good screen caps of them. But, I think Wedzinutt made his own, so if you look at his gallery you could get an idea of what they look like. Also, some ebay sellers make these, so you could use their pics as a reference (or even buy them).

stefunierocks, this website is good for alot of general links and info on how to make a Captain Jack cosutme. It shows you both the cheaper and expensive ways to make it, so I recommend reading it. :)
http://www.knowledgehound.com/khhow2s/make_jack_sparrow_pirate_costume.htm

Good reference pics (besides costumers guide of course)
http://www.ohjohnny.net/potc2/potc2news28.html

In general, the Jack costume is expensive if you're going for accuracy. There are some ways to get around this (for instance using the toy Capt. Jack gun rather than a Master Replica or something) But if accuracy is an important point, keep in mind that the DMC costume is alot more detailed and loaded than the COTBP costume. And even then, there's not law that says you can't mix and match. :)

Simplicity's pirate costume has a good vest pattern. With some modifications its really close to the actual design. But again, not sure how much accuracy you're aiming for, so the vest as it is good be fine for you (there are no pockets however).

Another note, just about everything in the actual costume is linen (Shirt, Vest, Breeches). But again, not sure how accurate you're going for.

The wig I'd say was probably the hardest to deal with, there's just so much going on that it makes it a bit difficult. For my wig I cut off dreads from a halloween-y pirate hat, and then I sewed them into the wig cap of a shoulder length, dark brown (not black) haired wig.

AND...

THE Headscarf on eBay:

If you're ever looking for something in particular (like baldric or boots), post. I tried to make my costume as cheaply as I could (for accuracy), so I know some pretty good websites.

Heh... My nieces were playing "pirates" over the weekend. They like the Backyadigans episode where they are pirates. So I say to them you need scarves! And they say "Yay!" so I ran and got me two Jack scarves and tied them onto thier heads. Ruby had this eye patch on and Storey had my Jack hat. My sister asks. "Is that Jack Sparrow's bandana?"

I'm probably not going to wear my costume for the premiere at D-Land... but a local showing of the movie... Perhaps we can get a gathering going? I say buy tickets for an evening show.. Have lunch someplace, run about the pier... then all go to the movie. All of this in full costume of course.

Anybody up to going to the Tonight Show if the principals go on? The last time I went to the tonight show it was for Lucy Lawless... right after her National Anthem incident..

I just uploaded 22 photos in My Gallery called Leather! They are various construction photos of baldrics from Curse Of The Black Pearl and the completed baldric from Dead Man's Chest and At Worlds End. I didn't really document the construction of the POTC 2 or 3 movie baldric but it is pretty much identical to the first movie baldric. To cut costs I didn't go for the expensive leather with stitching and henna print as some of the more "expensive" more "accurate" versions you will find on eBay. Budget is important because leather can be very expensive. Hunt around for the best buys and sales. There are many inexpensive and excellent leather stores online and in eBay!

Hey, same here Mexijew26!! I'm going to attempt a Dia Dalma cosplay for this March's Anime Detour! I have some idea of where to start on her dress--the elizabethan corset. :D From there, you can work on the coat that connects to it (how, I have no idea yet), and then the three torn up layered skirts. At least, that's my course of action. The onlt thing I'm wondering is... where can I find some cheap sea shells to attach to the belt thingy around her waist? Anyway, you shoudl keep us informed on your progess, Mexijew26!

I've been lurking in this thread for awhile and finally decided to attempt my own Jack Sparrow cosplay. ^__^ I've started sewing the clothes and have a hat, bandana, and the beads. I'm still looking for belts/baldric, boots, wig and all the other accessories. But what I am looking for is if anyone has any pics of him with his teeth? I'm not sure how many gold teeth he has and which ones are the actual gold teeth so if anyone has any pics that'd be awesome!

I have been making Tia's outfit for about 3 months now. There are four parts of her dress. Her coat, bodice, slip and over skirt. Her belt is wrapped around the bodice and the coat can taken off. I have taken pictures; I just have to put them up. I am about 90% done.

I got a bunch of Henna for X-mas. I am also using Henna for her make-up. And I bought dreadlocks to put in my hair.

To make it easier, use the bodice pattern from Mccalls, use Simplicity's POTC Elizabeth dress for the coat, also the same pattern for the slip and skirt.

Hey, thanks!! It'd be nice to find some more Tia Dalma cosplayers! I hope you're able to put up your costume pictures soon! It's a little difficult to find others who are doing this costume on this website, sad to say. To save in costs, I thought I'd just use liquid eyeliner for the dots on her face, especially since I'm going to cosplay as other characters and the make up can be easily washed off (I hope). I'm also going to make my own dreadlocks out of wool rather than buy already-made dreads. When I looked at some reference photos of Tia's gown, I noticed that there were three layers, not including the coat. There's this sort of striped/floral tucked in over skirt with a fruffy trim, a plainer floral underskirt, and yet another more ornate slip/shift deally. Eh... you can tell that I don't make traditional renaissance clothes all that much. (._.);

Anyway, there's this awesome website where you can generate your own custom corset pattern. (http://www.elizabethancostume.net/corsets/pattern.html) I actually haven't tried it out yet, but I am going to for this project. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your pictures!

YORDREEMZ does really good work. I'd say the material DOES match but as he states he has not done any distressing on the material. The original material from the movie is white linen that was dyed blue. This is difficult to get if you do not have the ability to get it directly from the movie costume department. I would recommened contact him and seeing where he got the material.

I'm pretty stoked, I'm finally getting my beads. I was originally going to find the beads and make them myself, but I finally decided to go the easier route and scower ebay.

I got the complete set from the sith-world ebay store. They look great, I can't wait till they come, I've been beadless for sooo long. I don't know how I managed to go without them so long, I mean... the beads are a famous part of the look.

It'll be curious to hear the jingley-ness of the long kucchi coin dangle. I have a feeling I'll be more prone to due those quick turns (and the slapfest!) just for the sake of being noisy. lol

EDIT: Yet again, my plans for the P&P event are falling through... this is getting insanely annoying. lol, it feels like everytime I'm posting here I'm talking about how my plans are being messed up.. its a curse! lol

I sense a rather large profit margin being sucked in by MR removing the winds from many a Captain Jack Sparrow costume sellers!

Jack Sparrow Pirate Beads Available for Pre-Order Next Week!

Following the success of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at the box office and on DVD, Master Replicas is pleased to announce its first Pirates replica for 2007 – the Jack Sparrow Pirates Beads. This blister carded item is the next in MR’s hugely successful line of blister carded Pirates replicas, and will be available this spring – in time for the third installment of the trilogy!!

If you’re going to sail with the Brethren, be sure to wear pirate beads in your hair.

Wherever they adventure on the Seven Seas, the Pirate Lords never sail forth without their personal sacred “Piece of 8.” It is the object each once used to bind Calypso and swear allegiance to the “Pirate’s Code.”

Jack Sparrow’s “Piece of 8” is a cord of Moroccan beads and an antique coin that hangs from the top his head. Each bead represents a swashbuckling adventure Jack’s had – or a shore he’s sailed to. It’s the perfect “Piece of 8 for Jack,” who is a bit of a dandy and likes his “accessories.” If only it didn’t keep swinging in his eyes every time he’s in the middle of a defensive maneuver.

For fashion-savvy pirates, Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Beads are now available as an authentic replica from Master Replicas. Add them to your collection to capture a bit of Jack’s dashing flair.

The Jack Sparrow Pirate Beads will retail for $9.99 and will be available for pre-order beginning on January 10, 2007 at 9 am PST for members of the 2006 and 2007 MR Collectors Society! It will be made available to the general public for pre-order the following day, Janauary 11, 2007 at 9 am PST.

It's a far better price then similar items are going for on E-bay. Think I'll definetly have to get atleast one, of them.

Really wish MR would come out with the rest of the rings. The Noble Collection has them all but at more then $100 a piece its way out of my budget... no matter how nice they are!

MR will be releasing the jade dragon ring sometime in 2007. It to will be part of their "blister pack" and will probably sell for the same amount as the skull ring from last year. $10-$15....

For about $25.00 you can make your own amethyst ring! $2.99 gold Sculpey polymer clay and $15-$20 real purple amethyst stone! Or you could use a fake stone and drive the price down even more! Look at the one I made in my gallery! I just wanted to use a real amethyst stone to make it more authentic.

I will be producing the dragon and flower ring soon. Just haven't had the time. All I have now are design drawings as to how to make the rings without them breaking.

This is just the main, long dangle right? Its cool to know the backstory behind it, the whole peices of 8 thing and all. The price is right, but I wonder how accurate it'll look for how cheap it is. But this is definatley good news for people who can't afford the eBay beads.

I am so mad. I went to Downtown Disney to find Tia's Locket but there was none and very surprised that hardly anyone who worked there knew who she was or her name. They would be surprised that Tia is going to be way more seen in AWE. So they better have the locket soon.

I need help for one thing. On her over skirt, she has patches on the trim. Could some of you see what color is in there?

Anybody got any sources for gold teeth caps? Not the cheap ones like I got from Thug Fashion but more along the lines of custome fit. Usually you have to provide a impression of your own teeth and they custom fit the caps to your impression. Costs in the $200's but I don't know of any sources.

Toji_Chiba

@wediznutt:

you could try to make a dental mold of your teeth yourself and produce the caps on them, but in the moment i hav no idea where to get gold for the teeth ^^
put fx-warehouse might be a good starting point for dental impression kits.

they also offer ready to use teeth caps (which i will go for, as a matter of low money^^) which could be painted or whatever in gold^^

http://www.fxwarehouse.info/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=11UL&Category_Code=Fangs

as i said you will find the molding kits for less than 30$ and then you could go to your dentist and say: "Do my gold caps on this mold."

or whatever^^ the possibilities are nearly endless ;)

Tall ships to battle it out in San Diego Bay

By: PAM KRAGEN - Staff Writer

SAN DIEGO ---- Tall ships will battle for supremacy over San Diego Bay next weekend, when four historically accurate tall ships take part in roaring cannon battles Saturday and Jan. 14 as well as Jan. 20 and 21.

Taking part in the cannon battle exercises will be the privateer Lynx, the Lady Washington, the Hawaiian Chieftain square-rigger and the San Diego-based cutter Californian.

Landlubbers can set up a beach chair along Harbor Drive to watch the events from the shore, or if they're nuts for all things nautical, they can book passage on the ships for battle sails from 1 to 4 p.m. each afternoon, where they can feel the vibrations of the six-pound deck guns and taunt the opposing ship's crew.

Michael Shanahan, spokesman for the Maritime Museum of San Diego, said the cannon battle cruises always sell out in advance, so advance reservations are recommended. Each ship can hold 35 to 45 passengers.

The four ships featured in the cannon battle program represent a cross-section of 19th-century sailing vessels. The Lynx, based in Newport Beach, was designed and built to interpret a privateer (a mercenary ship) or naval schooner from the War of 1812. The Californian is a replica of a mid-19th century revenue cutter and is the official tall ship of the state of California (it's based at the Maritime Museum of San Diego).

Launched in 1989, the Lady Washington is the ship featured in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" films as the HMS Interceptor. It's a full-scale reproduction of the original 1788 sailing ship that was the first American vessel to visit the coast of North America, Honolulu, Hong Kong and Japan. And the Hawaiian Chieftain, built in 1988, is a square-rigger built to interpret the trade vessels that served the Hawaiian islands in the 1800s. Both the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain are based in Aberdeen, Wash.

The Hawaiian Chieftain and Lynx will participate in the cannon battles on the first weekend only.

Cannon battle cruises are $55 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under. The noise of the cannons can frighten small children, so the battle sails are not recommended for children under the age of 6. For reservations, call (619) 234-9153, Ext. 101, or visit www.sdmaritime.org.

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k255/pirateslife4mez_2006/NewYears2007005.jpg

This is the bodice that took me forever to do but still not done. It may make me look kinda big because I didn't finish the lacing in the back. The only thing that is holding it together is the belt, other than I would to make it tighter in the back with the lacing (like a corset).

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k255/pirateslife4mez_2006/NewYears2007001.jpg

That is with the skirts. The patterns are the closet I could find to the real thing. But I am still not done with the overskirt. I have to finish the patches and sew the trim on the skirt.

These are different pics with the coat.
There are still some things that I need to finish with the coat like making the balls not to black. I need the shead the lace on the sleeves like hers. Also make white on the sleeves darker. I still think the beaver like tail is funny but that is what is on her dress.

Hana hou! Tia Dalma!

I love the main dress part! I can see the elements of Hawaii in the overall look! Very modern hula dress look to the main dress.

Now I would hate to see you have to distress the entire outfit. Maybe you could create a thin layer of distressed lace and place that over the entire dress to give it that Tia Dalma look...? Just a thought....

I finally saved enough to buy a jack sparrow baldric last week from an ebayer name sith-world here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=018&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=280068916419&rd=1&rd=1

the one that also sells the beads. (<-- gotta save up again for that lol)
and i'm extremely happy with it, but I kinda of need a scabbard, does anyone know how i could create one? a scabbard on ebay is already $100, that is almost the same price of the baldric.

Wediznutt help on the scabbard? heheh

Wediznutt
01-10-2007, 02:32 AM
Scabbards are not really difficult at all to make. After doing research and scouring the Internet...I came accross some tips.

1. Make sure that you trace out the blade onto cardboard or paper before cutting your leather. Be sure to add about a 1/4 inch around the area that is going to be stitched.

2. Some suggestions were to add a thin piece of leather in the stitching so that each time you sheath the sword the sharp portion will not cut into the leahter stitching. The MR sword I have does not have a sharp edge so I am not to worried about this problem.

3. Wet the leather when you are ready to shape and cut using your stencil from #1. Makes it easier to work with and fold.

4. Once you have cut the leather take the piece and wrap it around the sword blade in order to test the size and ensure you have a good fit. Never undercut the leather because you can never go back.

5. 4-5 ounce leather is recommended because it is thin enough to bend but also sturdy enough to hold the sword. You can find scrap leather at Tandy Leather store for about $20.00 or check eBay. CJS sword is about three feet long and no more than 2-3 inches wide so you don't need are real large piece. Be sure to get a little bit more in the event you mess up the first time around.

6. Add a strip at the top of the scabbard to help reinforce it so as you put the blade into the scabbard you and the leather are protected from the point.

7. Use waxed faux sinew when sewing. I plan on hand sewing my scabbard so it requires punching all those holes in the leather on both sides. Use what is called a saddle stitch. Google has pics diagramming this type of leather stitching.

http://mdc.mo.gov/teacher/highered/crafts/craft11.htm

http://www.millennia.demon.co.uk/ravens/saddlestitch.htm

8. Stain only the outside of the scabbard and not the inside. Be sure that the inside of the scabbad is the part of the leather that is on the inside of the animal...if that makes sense.

9. Finally you will need to add a rivet of some sort to prevent the scabbard from slipping through the frog. The frog is the part that has the loops in which the scabbard slips into.

Google "how to make a leather scabbard" and you will find several articles. I found one that describes making a scabbard for a double edge viking sword and it was very helpful.

http://www.ragweedforge.com/sheath.html

Example of leather scabbard. Note that the stitched part should be on the blades edge side.

My pics will going up soon.....just no time!:lost:

Neon! Check out Redford Films on eBay. Sometimes they lowball the other sellers by coming in with a low price. I saw a MR compass going for a starting bid of $75.00. I think someone ended up getting it for $80.00.

I got my MR sword from the for around $175 which is well below the $249.99 MSRP. I saw other websites trying to sell the sword for $350! OUTRAGEOUS! The nice thing about this sword is the fact you can put a sharp edge on it! :toothy:

By the way...how goes the waistcoat? I just bought about 30 yards of muslin from JoAnn's fabrics and getting ready to hand sew a REAL CJS shirt!

Well, along with the new waistcoat, I've been making a lot of new changes with my costume lately. So once I get all my pieces together I'll unveil the whole shebang.

I've replaced my sash with a newer one. Although the colors are screwy (dark brown stripes rather than red... fabric suppliers... what can you do?), it looks much more like the actual sash than my old one. The main reason I did this was my old sash was way to short to do the wrapping correctly (with the loop and all), and now this new one is massive.

I finally got the rust colored ribbon to put in the wig.

And I intend on taking some good ol' paint to my Zizzle pistol (that sounds funny lol), though I'm not sure about that yet. Eventually.

My beads (I think) came today... but sadly we missed the mailman and have to pick it up ourselves. Grrr.... The suspense is killing me! I mean, I think its them... but it may not be... either way I don't have them lol!

So as you can see, I've been doing a lot of tweaks! Once I get all this made I'm going to take a bazillion pictures. :P

I need to watch commentary more often. I was in English today, and somehow we got on the topic of DMC. So apparrently, none of the cast knew Jeffrey Rush was going to walk down the stairs, so the looks of surprise are real. And then, Orlando Bloom didn't know that Keira and Johnny were going to kiss, so that look of surprise is also real. Plus, I didn't know it was Keira's idea to add the kiss.

Boo on me. D;

Great job!! Yours is the first Tia costume I've seen online that I didnt hate! lol. It seems no one else whos done Tia so far paid ANY attention to detail.

The dress will look all the better once you distress it. I dont recommend tea btw. I recently used a TOUCH of rit-dye dilluded in water. I rubber-banded parts of the dress (elbows etc) and let it soak. The result is awesome! I'll have to post pics if I ever wear the dress before the premiere.

Not sure I'm gonna be able to afford P&P, even on my own, as I have to move again March 1st.

Im really enjoying watching everyones progress. I just purchased beads for my dad the other day, and hand made a scarf (lol its not quality, dont ask to see it, it does look good in pics tho) Im working on getting the material together to start on vests for my mom (pirate liz) my brother (will) and jack (my dad) Ive decided im going to do Will's vest from the second movie, and I will hand embroidure the ornate stitching onto it. Okay, I said I'd post a pic when I had everything completed... well... I'm way too excited about my beads to wait until then!!!

http://www.maj.com/gallery/Lewa11/JackSparrow/newbeads.jpg

I had to change the contrast and stuff on the picture because I had to take it with flash, but besides that its untouched.

They're awesome! They look really authentic, highly recommended if you can afford them. I'm not entirely sure if my placement is correct, but I was just going by memory rather than a pic. I'm also excited that I got the newer, more accurate looking bead set. Actually, it seems I might be one of the first people to receive one? As an extra note, along with the beads, there's also a solid red headscarf (I haven't opened it up yet, for I have my own JS print headscarf), but that's a plus for those who haven't snatched out a "Mango Fever" one.

Hehe, I'm actually still in my makeup and wig as I post this lol. What's odd is that I think I look way better in person than in any pictures I've taken (though of course my camera, seems to be very unforgiving on people in general). But who cares... I'VE GOT MY BEADS!

NeonHurricane: You change the date again!!! I have much to do b4 the this event. Now you made me rush more. EEEERRRRR.

Yeah... I'm really sorry, people keep changing things on me so I always have to change around them (they're my transportation). EDIT: I went to Guest Services and they were able to change my previous ticket to the date in my sig (Jan. 22nd). The first time anything has gone smoothly for me. :P

Looking good Neon! The beads definitely makes the costume!

It looks like your doing COTBP so the beads are right. If your doing DMC the right side beads hang half way down a black dreadlock. From the looks of it CJS dread grew quite long from COTBP to DMC! Remeber the bandana V goes over the right eye. The bandana beads can be easily sewn with one thread loop over the coin and higher up the strand.

Sorry it was late and I look really scary....but check out my Upgrade gallery for the bead placement or look at CJS pics!

Looking good! Can't wait to see your waistcoat!!!!!!

Now my question is this...

where did he get the shrunken head?

If he's in Davy Jones' locker (purgatory for sailors) ......?

I know that each item is part of a backstory or the story itself...be interesting to know about the shrunken head...

Well researching various pics on the web I have discovered that this shrunken head thing was still practiced by Ecuador-Peruvian natives until the mid 1950s. It was outlawed by the governments. They still make them for the tourists but they use goat skin to cover the carved wood.

It is also WAS practiced in Indonesia as well. Now considering CJS always makes mention to Singapore I would assume that he picked it up somewhere in the Far East. Remember he does fight Captain Sao Feng.

Or perhaps he got it from Tia Dalma!

Well, today I'm trying something pretty different. I'm taking a step forward makeup wise. I'm trying something that'll make me look more tanned, and make me less freckly, making me look more like JS. (I removed the background due to how bright the flash was)

In comparison:

http://www.maj.com/gallery/Lewa11/JackSparrow/sidebyside.jpg

I think it looks pretty good, I'm just wondering if the hue isn't too... yellowish for a Jack Sparrow tan? Of course I'll have to experiment with the application too... I'm not exactly the guru of makeup being that I'm a dude. :P

1. Bronzer for that instant tan. Rub it in and within 30 minutes you are a wee bit darker.

2. Dirty look - Ben Nye charcoal. A little goes ALONG way to give you that dirty, piratical look!

To my fellow Captain Jacks, where are you getting you dreadlock wigs from. Most ones I've looked out are either braided dreads, or the tight curls, I've seen much better ones in person so they are out there. I figure I'll have to add hair on to be able to make the pony tail cause I have et to see a wig thick enough to allow for that and still have hairs left. I'm willing to spend some money on it, but not too too much. Thanks mates!!

So if you like the way my wig looks, then this is what I used. I sewed them into the wig, and they work pretty nicely. They are pretty stiff though.

Even though I can grow a beard I am doing another cosplay requiring me to be clean shaven so I made my own jack sparrow beard.
You just need to find a costume shop that sells crepe wool in the dark brown color (or go online, I've got tons of site is you need them) and you get some liquid latex (to make it easier to attatch to your face later) and you "glue" the hair to the latex, and tado you have a beard. I'll try and get pics of mine up soon. Hope that helps, a little!

Yeah spirit gum is used to attatch the crepe wool to your face. If you use the liquid latex first the beard will become re-usable and much easier to take off. I know there's more info on all this in a make up forum if you want to look more into it.

I made some great progress over the weekend, finally got a decent wig so used to "not so good" first one ripped it apart for the braids and pony tail. The pants are all sewn, vest is almost done, a bit of modification is needed to my shirt cuffs, and I'm still waiting on my baldric buckle and some make up..still two weeks til Ikkicon so plenty of time to finish up...i hope!

I would use pros-aide because of its industrial strength (Most likely this is what they used to glue Johnny Depp’s beard). It's huge in the FX industry. To make things even cooler is that you could use a combo of the dried latex beard and use pros-aide to attach it for later use, I think it would look brilliant.

EDIT:

Heres the basic steps I followed and my Captain jack stuff turned out great:
http://www.reddawn.net/quilt/teadye.htm

As for shredding and fraying i just took some fine grained sand paper and roughed up the areas I wanted to age. Nail or shop files will work too. Start with the fine grain and work your way up til you get the desired effects.

Only the cast members knew who I was but couldn't figure out my name. Some came up asking where did I get it and how much was it. The responds from me gave them wide eyes.
The highlight of the night was when I met their Jack. His eyes grew very wide and then grabed my hand saying "Tia where have you been?" We stayed there for 5 min taking pics and talking. OHH I wish I could grab him and take him home.

All right mates! Now that Halloween is gone and time is not an issue anymore, I updated my Captain Jack Sparrow trinkets. The monkey fist has now become the correct chicken foot and the fertility icon (mermaid) and vertebra were severely reduced in size.

All the items were made out of polymer clay, painted using acrylic paint, and sealed with acrylic sealer. Note the chicken foot has realistic looking claws. I was happy with the outcome of this effect. Long grain rice was used and man it was NO fun looking through many individual pieces of long grain rice to find the perfect four claws!!!

....I just need a victim!

Actually in researching how to go about making this item I came across the idea of carving it out of hard packed styrofoam but than realized that it would not paint well. So next I thought of the old fashioned paper mache! Flour mixed with water and strips of newspaper but this became two uneven and cheap looking!

Researching on the Internet I came across an art material called Celluclay! It is a powdered form of paper mache so when mixed with water it is extremely dense however it dries hard and tough. I am going to create the head, facial features, lips, and neck using this stuff. When it dries I am going to use blond Kanekalon hair (leftover from pirate Elizabeth Swann's ponytail) and layer the hair for the head and moustache!

The project looks like it should be about 3-4 hours with drying time. Still debating on what color to paint the item especially to capture that shrunken skin texture. Experimenting begins this weekend!

I'll post pics throughout the process! Overall size of the head will be about 5-6 inches tall and about 4-5 inches wide.

Here is some info about Celluclay! :bigtu:

Leather scabbard update! I finally found the part that I need to prevent the scabbard from sliding through the frog!

http://www.tandyleather.com/products.asp?number=1309-01

For those of you that were making your own scabbard...these are about 99 cents each from Tandy Leather. They come in brass and nickel plated over brass!

My quest is over!

For A-kon I just need to improve on my weapons, and I need to find more places to go to as Jack, the few cons a year are not going to be enough...

We'll see! I am still finishing up my first one which I consider to be my "prototype!" I am still making a few improvements. I now have to deconstruct the top portion in order to get the new stud rivet into the leather. Not to mention restain the new leather part.

I'll post the finished product from the weekend.

Mhh Anyone an idea how to do the CotBP Belt buckles? I cant get my hands on metallic Clay where i live... only some plastic-clay stuff that can be made in the oven. Anyone an idea on how to make them, that they are hard enough so they do not break the first time i wear the belt?

Mhh Anyone an idea how to do the CotBP Belt buckles? I cant get my hands on metallic Clay where i live... only some plastic-clay stuff that can be made in the oven. Anyone an idea on how to make them, that they are hard enough so they do not break the first time i wear the belt?

My buckles are the only things that I purchased because they are impossible to make in any other medium other than pewter or resin. I tried making the COTBP buckle using polymer clay reinforced with wire but after attaching it to a test belt it broke! All that hard work for nothing.

I was told by another polymer clay maker that you should use Sculpey PREMO clay for the buckles because it is more dense and stronger. Once you finish baking dunk the item in slushie cold water and that "shock" treatment will make the item more sturdy!

Another thing I thought of but did not try was making the buckle out of balsa wood and reinforcing it with fiberglass but having worked on surfboards this is messy and smelly! Not the best thing to do in a house.

I am actually quite impressed with this Celluclay material. It seems to be very dense and strong. I have not tried making a buckle yet but from my research people make many different things including vases, sculpture, jewelry, etc.

Another thing you could try is ArtClay. I believe it is a new type of medium that uses some type of metal in the clay. You have to fire the clay on an open flame such as a grill or gas stove. The metal bonds after burning away all the bonding material and you end up with a metal alloy material in your item. Very strong but I do believe it is expensive to buy.

Good eye TC! I noticed that too awhile back when I first found this pic! Remember that Ana Maria also had CJS bottem belt buckle in COTBP! Seems the costume people hadn't finished their character development process yet or Norrington, Jack, Ana, Will, and Liz all shop at the same pirate store.:toothy:

Aye! He is Scruffy Norrington and I am sure the beginning of POTC 3 will show a "scruffy" going to "clean" Admiral Norrington thus why I stated a pre-Admiral Norrington from the beginning part of POTC 3...perhaps! Remember he still has resolved his issues with Lord Cutler Becket after he dumped Davy Jones' heart on the desk! He was still Scruffy Norrington at the point of the movie! I imagine he makes a return as Scruffy and soon cleans up when he gets his life back!

Moon Prince: I am still waiting to hear from a friend if she was able to get us tickets to the Disneyland premiere. Are you still going to go to the premiere at DLR? If so I wonder if we can wear a partial CJS costume without wig, weapons, etc. I heard at DMC they asked people to dress up in pirate clothing but remembering the film footage not too many Hollywierd types did.

We are also planning on going to the night showing at El Capitan theater on Saturday night after the midnight opening. I think the midnight opening would be fun but it would be hard to get home, get dressed, and drive all the way out to downtown LA.

And finally one of the following weekends we plan on going to DTD to see it a third time!

Let me know if you are interested in any of the last two.....! Now to finish up some details on my CJS AWE lookalike!:untrust:

Usually there are a lot less costumed attendees at Disney locations rather than others, so I'm keeping a sharp eye open for where more of the Floridian pirates are going.

Though I figure I'll probably wind up at Downtown Disney.

I want to go to the movie at the premeire so badly... I've given hints to people that I want to attend the private party... lol but they are not the kind of people I can ask are you going? can I go? they are in the media industry but not in that side... but they do know people there... am I making sense?

then there is somebody my friend knows who will be working the event itself (close to Keira actually), but we can't ask her either... actually we have.. but she is only disneyland staff... not event staff... *sigh* so very close, yet so very very far....:bigcry:

baught a good looking Kuchi Dangle at an ebay store, for aroung $10(inklusively shipping costs)
Than a 5 Pyas Coin from Burma for around $1,5(plus $2 for local transport), made the reindeer bone out of... wood i think... costs: a poor tree lost one of his billions of knobs
and the beads... i think all in all (had to do some myself) $6.

Hey how did you get your gold teeth to stay in? I just bought some and they keep falling out!

I simply shaped them so that they would stay on but at a price!!!! After having them on for a period of 5 hours you will feel the pain in your gums, teeth and skull! The constant pressure of squeezing your teeth will be an issue. Secondly, you will grow very hungry and very thirsty after wearing them for a long period of time because you shouldn't do either while wearing them. They also scrape your enamel off your teeth too so be careful.

Use a small jewelers pliers to shape them. They are very easy to break if you bend them too much.

I am currently researching gold or faux gold caps. I found a place that will sell you a kit to make impressions of your teeth for about $10.00 however each cap will run about $40-$50 each.

By the way each time I see your avatar I think of Splinter Cell Agents Bob and Steve from G4TV....sorry!

People took so much pictures of me that I was seeing white dots all day. I meet a JacK and everyone gathered around to take Pics. He was a cool kid.

But the highlight of the weekend was when a Jack from Disney and Universal (dressed normaly) approached me asking if I was interested in being his Tia for Parties, Events, and shows. I told him that all I have to do is make a very good wig, practice at the Jamacian acsent, and get tanner.
So ya hard work really do pays off.

Oh my god I had a blast at Megacon.

Woah cool! Congratulations! That's not everyday an opportunity presents itself like that. ^.^

I gave you a card for the place that supplied my makeup right? If I haven't the website is madgeelainesworld.com. That's the same place that all of the Orlando area orders most of it's PotC makeup from, so you should be able to get the wig you're looking for there (that's where Universal Jack and I got our beards and stuff).

I will have more soon.

Finally finished the decorative stitching on the DMC/AWE baldric. Hand punched and hand stitched all....took the entire weekend while watching TV and occassionally drawing blood! Went through three needles that all broke. I recommend stitching before construction but Halloween was coming up and I had to finish! Now it is DONE and ready for the premiere!!!

Whoops! Forgot that I am considering doing the henna pattern but we will see!

The card was set up more like an advertisment for the store, so informatio-wise there wasn't to much. You can get more from their website (http://www.madgeelainesworld.com) or their myspace (http://myspace.com/madgeelainesworld). ^_~

Than a 5 Pyas Coin from Burma for around $1,5(plus $2 for local transport), made the reindeer bone out of... wood i think... costs: a poor tree lost one of his billions of knobs
and the beads... i think all in all (had to do some myself) $6.
Okay they are not looking thaaaaat exact but it will work for me^^

*prices are all more or less guessed, cause our currency here is "Euro"*

TC: I finally got my coins but the scalloped versions are WAY to small. I was afraid this was going to happen. If you compare it to the movie version or the Master Replica version it is way smaller in size. Oh well! I will just incoporate the coins into my wig!

Master Replica:

Well my only comparison in size was a nearly 1:1 Poster of Jack Sparrow in my room.. and the size was okay... maybe the poster was not really real size
...either way i will use my own version although the size might not be perfect ^^

Did you receive your coins yet? The small image in the eBay sale showed a group of coins that all looked the same size. The scalloped coin that has the 12 bumps is about the size of a US dime. The scallped coin that has 6 bumps is about the size of a US nickel. The rest are circles. One is square shaped.

I may attempt to use the image on the largest coin and make an impression using polymer clay, paint it, seal it and use it. By the way what are you using for your beads on this strand (dark green, white, light green, and brown cylinder shaped bead)?

I first think that the picture looks fine. What makes the person look different is when you stand infront of a photo backdrop it tends to make the lines between colors look very sharp. He is also too clean and the costume is not weathered so everything looks "new out of the box!" Some items look like they are from some other CJS sellers we know about!

sparrowfan
02-24-2007, 03:16 AM
oh man, i guess only Lunacat1 agrees with me? come on guys.

i'm not really convinced that he is legit though. lol
i'm not doubting the fact that he has these items already purchased,
but the ones in his picture are copied from the disney picture

i still think the belts and baldrics are photoshopped on. but no big deal. just funny to see that. maybe i often worked with photoshop so i could pick up these things easier. hehe

compared to the official disney picture, it is quite obvious. don't you guys think? =]
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/148/untitledus2.jpg

the baldric has the exact shape, bends the same way, caught the light at the same angle, the buckle is in the exact same location between the holes in the belt, creases at the exact same spots, not the mention at the exact same angle as well as compared to the disney picture.

the 2 pieces of fur are wrapped exactly like the disney picture, at the same exact angle with the same exact lighting, exact color, and exact shadow & folds. it is 100% identical to the disney picture. you can also see there is a dark border around the fur pieces, which he did not do a good job of cleaning, the black border is where the dark frock coat was in the disney picture.

the light brown belt has the same dirt marks, same stretched leather, same shadow at the exact same place with the belt holes as reference, same tilted angle for the belt, the buckle slanted in the exact same way at the exact same location on the belt with the holes & shadows as reference and the whole belt/buckle caught the exact same lighting as the disney picture,

it also looks like a bad photoshop job, as he did not resize the buckle correctly, it is way too big from any of the cjs seller's buckle that i know of. lol
