I'm wondering if I can find any decent reference pictures of 'Disguise' Elizabeth from "Dead Man's Chest", because I'm planning to make that costume fairly soon. I know the chances of finding many pictures are slim, since the movie just came out TODAY. (July 7). I've googled it, and gotten either no response, or a bajillion pictures.

Does anyone happen to have any pictures, or want/need any help on PotC costumes?

I'd wait at least a week or so for people to get their hands on bootlegged versions of it. xD

but omg wasn't it amazing? >.>

I loved it soo much^^ I'd love to do a Elizabeth Swan Cosplay but I'm sort of scared that I couldn't find a hat...any sites for Pirate hats would be nice^^

I've already made that outfit minus the hat and coat which will be made to wear in colder weather. I have about 3 different reference pictures on my computer. What I couldn't figure out with the pictures and watching clips online I refered to the action figure.

http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=739789

If anyone needs any help with that outfit, let me know. I do not have pattern numbers since I made the patterns using my computer project; however, I can help find ones that will work.

Hee! Just started that one today myself! I found a lot of hi-res images at IGN (http://filmforce.ign.com/objects/570/570328.html). The only part I'm really having trouble with is finding good pics of the back of the red vest.

I want to do that exact costume, but there's no room in my list of cosplays to make! T-T

Also, my mom and I have decided we want my older brother to cosplay Captain Jack, so due to the movie, that wouldn't work out so very well.
xD

It. Was. Amazing.

BTW, one of the vests in the Simplicity 4923 pattern is easily modified into the vest. Ditto for the shirt. :)

I'm currently working on the hardest one! haha!!

I'm cosplaying as Davey Jones!!!

I'm working with little motors to get the tentacles on his face to move. If it works i'm sure to win any contest!!

I'm estimating it will take me about a year to do. I'll post pics of the progress soon.

Wow! I can't wait to see some progress shots of that. My friend and I were just talking about how much we want to see someone cosplay Jones. That really would win any contest ever if pulled off.

..a...Davy..Jones...cosplayer?

If that turns out, it will be made of win; I suggest doing a lot of research, and writing to makeup experts who deal in prosthetics- they can give you a lot of advice, since you're going to be dealing with the actual face, rather than the CG of the movie.

Wow, so many people interested in POTC cosplay....^.^ Sweet.

Actually I had the same idea (Elizabeth Swann pirate costume) as soon as I left the theatre XD I'd love to do it for Halloween, but I'm studying in Japan this fall ><

The previous post about hats has great ones, but they're horribly expensive ($100 for the one that looks most accurate @_@). Does anyone have any other suggestions?

After seeing the movie, and while watching it, I started thinking about how much I want to cosplay as one of the crew mates on Davy Jone's ship.

If you want to find a less expensive Capt. Jack hat you can check some Halloween stores. I know when I was working at one a few years ago we had some hats that looked like his. I just wish I could remember the website name of any Halloween store now.

Burton

Ebay has cheaper, good hats every now and then but you have to keep looking, and be ready for a bid battle.

Also, you could try making one to save costs. Depending on what style you want, there's several ways of cheating. I did a very nice tricorn pirate hat for Elizabeth's pirate look by buying a large, black floppy hat and taking up the sides. You'd never know it wasn't meant to be a tricorn. I believe the hat itself was only $10.

And on a side note, I just uploaded my pictures from one of my DMC outtings in my gallery if anyone wants to peek :)

I'd love to do a DMC cosplay, but I just don't have the room for it in my list of future-cosplayes. ;_;

The movie was amazing, though a part of my soul died at the end--I don't see how they can expect us to wait another year for the third one and remain sane at the same time. o_________o I'm dying with anticipation. xD

I actually have a little expirience in that area. Iv'e been doing special effects makeup and props for my independant films for going on 4 years now.
I have a plan for it as well. I just got a stack of library books on octopusses, squid, other sea life, and fifteenth century clothing as well as the Davy Jones action figure.

I'm working on the face first.

My main worry isn't the building but the final painting of it all. I might have to buy an airbrush.
I also am worrying about how hot it will be to wear. I might need some type of cooling system.

I'll probably make it out of some type of latex rubber.

Foam latex will be the best choice for your project (and the making-of of Hellboy could give you some extra help -Sammael end Hellboy himself-)

I actually really like Will Turner's jacket in this movie.

Jet Li? No, he's not in the third movie. Chow Yun Fat is in the third.
But Elizabeth's big outfit, from the third, is heavily Chinese influenced. Sort of like this one. :bigtu:

Where did you guys find those pictures for the third movie? I just got back from seeing it and I have to say I loved it just like I loved the first one.

Cosplaying Jack would be so fun but I dont really think I look like him and getting myself to look like him would be a challenge...the main thing is having blonde hair, which is nice for A TON of cosplays but not this one since my beard is blondish too. Anyway great costumes to the people who have done them kudos to you ^_^

Not so sure on the fabric...wool might work, otherwise I guess you could use felt...personally I'll probably buy the hat @_@ XD Don't trust my skills that far just yet.

It's a shame none of you live down here in Southern Texas -- or do you? :X In Galveston there's an ooold ship like the ones in the movie that you can wander around on, and I believe you can actually crew it for a day after you've gone through training. The ship that was used as the "Interceptor" in the first movie tours around the western seaboard. I got to walk around on that one shortly after Curse of the Black Pearl came out. It was a blast to talk to some of the crew that had been there for the filming! I wish I had the pics of it here, but they're up at my parents' house.

The ship used as 'The Interceptor' is the 'Lady Washington'. She's from the Seattle area, Lake Union, WA, about an hour or so away from where I live. I've got pictures of her, too, from when I saw her at the Wooden Boats festival in Port Townsend.

I haven't been able to wander around on her, yet, though. Lucky xfkirsten. XD I think you can rent her when she's on the lake, for parties and stuff, but it's probably insanely expensive.

I thought I'd just make a note here since everyone's interested in POTC:

SENTICON (http://www.senticononline.com) (a slash con) in Michigan is Pirates of the Caribbean theme this year. There's going to be a lot of POTC cosplay there. So if you're interested in POTC, slash, and live nearby.... check it out :)

I'm personally going as Jack again and possibly making a new Will or Norrington costume. I think there's a Barbossa and Norrington also going for sure.

Yup! That's the one! Lake Union? Last I heard, it was based out of Aberdeen. When I went and saw it, it was up in Anacortes. :)

For anyone who wants to tour it, the schedule is available here (http://www.historicalseaport.org/calendar/calendar.htm)! Dockside tours are pretty cheap, and you can spend as much time on board during the tour times that you want. I'd love to do one of their sailings, but you do have to book it EARLY. :)

Just curious, but has anyone else thought of cosplaying teenage Jack Sparrow from the children's book series? He's essentially the same looks-wise, but with short hair and no goatee. I've been told the books themselves aren't that great, but... I'm seriously thinking about cosplaying that version of Jack anyway. XD

But... yeah... now to figure out how to make my pale skin dirty and tan... -cursed skin doesn't tan.... burns then becomes pale again... ;.;- And I can't forget dirtying up the shirt! and those gold teeth... -curses also having braces, and now having retainer glued to the back of her teeth. -.-;;; -

Yeah, he plays some new bad guy pirate captain. There's two pictures of him in costume, if you want to see them. Not technically spoilers, as they're just him backstage and not doing any actual scenes, but if you don't even want to know what he looks like, then yeah. Spoilers.

Just came back from seeing Pirates again. ^_^ Was a dork and paying attention to costumes as well as what all the sea pirates were made of (Yay marine bio!).

Tia's outfit is SOO complicated! I noticed small feathers on the top of her dress and in her hair...looks like a tattoo on her left shoulder. But yeah...reds and greens and browns....I swear she's trying to blend into her home. >_<;; I think she had a small (cameo?) necklace?

Also notice Will had a small silver locket or something. And I think for Pirate Elizabeth the back and front are different materials. The back looked like it had a weave in it.

Anyways, there's some of my off the top of my head recollections. Hope this helps some people. But yeah, keep an eye out on the Costumer's Guide site. Truely an amazing place.

Tia's outfit is really random and complicated but something you could have so much fun with since you could leave stuff unhemmed. XD I hope to make that dress someday and I plan to have fun making it look worn and torn.

And yes I do belive Elizabeth's vest is two different fabrics in the same colour. o.O The front has a bit of a pattern on it, while the back is striped. Also, she seems to have her hand bandaged which kind of puzzles me since they never show anything happened where she needs to bandage is. It'll probably be something that shows up in deleted scenes when the DVD comes out. Or so I hope. o.O

It looks the the Costume site updated with POTC2 Jack. Hurrah! XD

Thanks for the pics Far Cry. They'll be very helpful for making the costumes we need. There is a POTC (the first one obviously) showing at a sci-fi/Fantasy con Khene and I are attending in the fall and we wanted to dress in costume for it since the con staff is encouraging people to. We thought that maybe the Tortuga scenes would be a place to start looking for something that not everyone would be wearing.

I love the book series! If I ever get a boyfriend, he and I are going as teen Jack and Arabella (the girl in the novels)!

Although the way they portray Jack on the covers and in the illustrations makes him look more like Gil from Kim Possible than Jack Sparrow. Whenever I read, I imagine him looking more like teenage Johnny Depp than the cartoonish dude in the books.

Ebay, all that crap is sole on ebay.

OR you can use this (http://www.studiocreations.com/howto/blueprints/images/jsparrow_compass_mech.pdf) blueprint to make your own

I was planning on stopping by Toys R Us myself to get that toy compass for my costume too.

It is the best way to go without having to spend 200 bucks on a replica on EBAY *Cough ripoffs* cough... I hate ebay, everyone charges you a fortune.

I am even getting the plastic pistol and modifying it because I cant afford to spend 70 bucks on the pistol (Which I was refunded for and still havent gotten credited for yet).

Ah well, I was going to post links to the Items I bought on ebay but that might be spam.

I got really professional stuff so it will be worth it in the end. (Hopefully if I dont get scammed).

*snicker* since I love toys that make noise? i got the toy pistol. I saw the Master Replica compass.. at SDCC. I had the money but decided to pass on it and save my money for Disneyland the next day. I did pick up the ring though.

I'm probably going to get the costume set... jsut to have some templates...

Geezes, yeah, I dont even HAVE 200 bucks lol. I spent it all on my other costume pieces. Have to wait until I get more paychecks. It is sad because I should have had over a thousand dollars saved from this job and I spent it all this summer. I curse at myself because I could have had better pieces for my costume AND the money to spend at the convention. I am just worried I wont have much money at all by the time it comes.

I still need a more accurate shirt and vest, BUT with all the other accurate pieces to my costume no one should really notice that my shirt, vest and sash are not completely accurate to his.

I still need to make the boots, and instead of spending 400 bucks on real boots, I am going to attempt to make my own for like 20 bucks of suede pieces and REALLY strong glue I may be able to make Jacks boots myself (Which hopefully wont fall apart on me, it be funny to others but not to me lol)

I found a perfect boot tutorial online if anyone wants it I will post it, But most of you probably found it by now lol.

I am obsessing over this costume, but at least I know it will look a lot better then others.

Has anyone actually been to a convention as Jack Sparrow and got a good reaction from everyone else? Like were you glomped with cameras and stuff :p All I know is that he is the most popular character, and since I will be with a group of Naruto Chars, people will find us ALL entertaining because we are different then original Naruto groups lol.

Moon Prince
08-09-2006, 01:01 PM
Could you post the boot tutorial? I have some ideas of how to make mine... and it may help in modifying another pair that I have for another costume.

Hah! I'm going to attempt to make my costume. First one that I'm making from scratch instead of finding pieces and modifying them. I figure if it don't turn out 'perfect' I can chalk it up to wear and tear...

I've seen Jack cosplay at cons. "He" always seems to get a good reaction.

Heck, even the face character at Disneyland gets mobbed by screaming teenagers. ^^; Haven't seen the teenage girls react to Disney walk-about characters like that before.

sweet_kat22

Lmao, thats the only thing I am worried about. I dont mind being Glomped by a bunch of girls, BUT I dont want to be Hit on by a bunch of girls.

I just be like, whoa hold it, I'm not a lesbian savvy? HAHA that would freak them out.

Meh its CN Anime, I heard there isnt that much glomping at CN Anime, but if you say its that bad at Disney world, heh.

Ok here is the link:

tell me about it. I don't have $100 to buy Tia's necklace.

There's a buy it now for..I believe it was $30 on ebay right now ^^ Still not cheap, but oh well..

*is making her own* Davy really got to me ^^; I loved him in the movie and have been doing a loooot of research since..I've even bought the perfect fabrics, in Paris ^_^ I'm going to be in a group with some friends of mine, with me as Davy, a friend as Tia Dalma and another friend as the Kraken. Yeah, I know XD We've made a half human, half octopus design, the front is a beautiful, seductive woman, but when she turns around, she has the mouth of the Kraken on her back, with many, many, many moving tentacles coming out. Her skirt will also be completely made of tentacles, the biggest ones being almost 10 meters long and remote controlled, so they can actually grab people and scare them..and a little Black Pearl somewhere in her tentacles XD

We're planning for all the details too, my friend who's playing Tia Dalma's quite good with metal working, so we're making the necklaces and Davy's key ourselves, and a friend of my mother is an expert on music boxes and she'll be helping me recreating Davy's music box..we also want to make the beating heart, and, if possible, the chest. Lots of work and lots of plans but it's going to be so much fun! :D We're even making a tarot card set for Tia, with the Pirates characters in it ^_^ (of course, Davy and Tia are the Lovers XD hey come on, Will and Elizabeth would be too predictable..and well, even though it's just rumors, they would be an amazing couple..a scary Voodooish lady with eew teeth and a fishy monsterish guy..isn't that real love?)

*is having so much fun with this already* ^___^ The acting of the characters is so much fun, though Davy's accent is quite hard..I love the fishy sounds he makes XD Our deadline is end april, so we've got some time..good luck to everyone making Pirates costumes ^___^ *loves this thread* We're also gathering people for a bigger group, though that will be for just one con..right now, we have Elizabeth(my sister ^_^), Captain Barbossa(her boyfriend O.O), Jack(the cannibal version, complete with stick on his back and fruits..apples too, of course, so Barbossa can eat apples of him), Will and perhaps even Bootstrap ^_^ *starts sewing* O.O

sweet_kat22 : LOL I am bi.. so I don't mind being glomped by girls. It's the guys who hit on me that I hate.. Not that I'm expecting to be hit on by guys as Jack..

then again, my Jack won't be perfect, as I'm also of Japanese decent.. heh.. but I'm just doing it because I think it would be so much fun. One of the reasons I run around as Great Saiya Man from Dragon Ball Z.

*laughs* i just hoping i can get it done in time.. I'm aiming for the movie premeire... I would think it would open the same day as the previous two... which would make it July 6th, but that would conflict with another highly anticiapted 'kid flick' Transformers... I've heard May... Memorial day floating about...

I've gotten glomped before dressed as Tuxedo Kamen.

The other night, I was walking the floor of Jo Ann putting stuff away like Jack. It was quite amusing. I don't think any of my team members saw me though.

If they do one at Disneyland again, I'm going to try and go... but you can't wear costumes there..

I may be a 'geek' and dress up when I see the movie, if I can get a few people to do it too. It will be one of the last 'geeky' things I've yet to do..

Jack's voice/accent is harder for me to do.. I tend to slip a bit... Ironicly, I can do Elizabeth's just fine... I thought about doing Elizabeth cosplay, but I think that I would look horrid being of Japanese descent.

If anyone is looking for a way to do Jacks Facial hair right, I read somewhere that you can take bristels from a brush and glew them on (NOT A PLASTIC ONE) I cant believe my mother thought I was going to use plastic bristles for my facial hair lol.

Oh the third movie isnt coming out for like another year right?

Damn I hope my bandana comes in the mail soon, I had a friggen dream about getting the bandana. I hate dreams like that, they get your hopes

Oh yeah he needs more make up too, his eyes dont look right.

Yeah, he looks like of funny.. But he had the mannerisms down, and his voice was pretty good.. I think the thing that bothered me the most? He shaved his chest so you could see the stubble there. @_@

I watched the Pirate Tutorials on youtube. Those Jack's were bloody awful. Hell, one of them had no walk at all. We only caught the singing pirate act as we were passing by.. That would be where/when they would do the Pirate Tut if they do it at Disneyland..

And they are more lenient about dressing up on the day of the premier. My friends and I dressed up (although mine could have been considered regular clothes... I'm going to go to the premiere next year. I don't care what it takes...

I'm so close. I missed the crew when they were filming out in Palos Verdes Estates, Marineland. I've missed several opportunites to see the ships when they were docked locally... I must go! The closest I got? Pintel? the guy with the guy with the wooden eye's uncle came in to buy a Pintel figure.

I have a list of "geeky things we do for fandom" and going to a premiere is one of them... to add to 'geekiness' of this geekiness, go to premiere in costume.

I like it! You got his 'whispering and scary' voice down very well, perhaps a little too well. You don't hear that hoarse/whispering voice in him when he talks in a more angry way(like with the '100 souls' part), but your voice kind of sticks with the 'will you join my crew' part, you know? I suggest listening and imitating the parts where he gives his orders, furter in the movie and then mix that with the voice you do now ^_^ But the first part was amazing, I thought 'oh, this must be where he first lets us hear Bill Nighy, then talks himself..' and then I realized it was you already! Very well done ^_^

I love the two part mask idea, and what you've done 'till now looks amazing! I was playing with the two part idea as well(no sense in so much trouble to learn how to talk like Davy and then it looks weird when you talk ^^; ), but I was wondering..how do you plan to attach the lower part to your skin? I was thinking about skin glue-I still have some of that stuff and used it before and it worked pretty well then but the lower part with all the tentacles is going to be pretty heavy so I'm not sure if it will hold..or did you plan to attach the lower part to the upper part again, but only at certain points to it still gives you enough 'space' to talk? (I'm sorry, english isn't my first language and I'm quite bad at it when it comes to explaining technical stuff ^^; so I'm sorry if I make absolutely no sense and look like a total idiot now ^^;)

I actually learned to drive in the Marineland parking lot, and there was part of a ship sitting in the middle of the lot. I was really confused, and then I found out what it was. Had I known what it was... "Disney? Yes I have your ship. You can have it back if you send Johnny and Orlando to pick it up" XD

OMG thank you

as for the bottom part of the mask I'll use two straps (one across the back of my head and the other across my scalp) then i'll glue it to my bottom lip, my chin, and on the side of my face. the top half will fit over my headand i'll glue it on my top lip and around my eyes. So I guess it's more of a prosthetic than a mask. I'll be using Pro Adhesive (very strong hold prosthetic glue) for my lips and jaw and Duo Surgical Adhesive for my eyes.

Wooohooo! I'll have to go see it sometime. ^_^ Where exactly is the San Pedro harbor again? ^^;;

@ Tess: I was actually trying to think of how to make the hat this morning for you. So here's my crazy idea so far. ^^; Since it's pretty much a round shape for your head with then the three corners I'd either look for a round cap hat form or maybe even sacrafice a baseball cap (cut off the bill) to use as a base. Then drape the cloth around the cap....and then fold it up and sew it into the three corners. But there might be some more exact/accurate tutorials out there. Oh and if you're wondering where to get hat forms, you can pick some up at www.cosplaysupplies.com . Hope this helps a smidge!

*laughs* I totally know the feeling... I spent more on mine. and it's just a pile of fabric...

Yeah lol, I have to make my boots still. I got the Suede for it, but I need some special cement glue or something to be able to glue it on.

Although the boots I got look fine by themselves, even though Jack doesnt have Black boots, I see him cosplayed with black boots too. The boots look just like pirate boots except black instead of the brown color Jack wears. (I found boots 10 bucks from Value Village, I was surprised. The last time I went I didnt see any).

I wonder if I would get anyone pointing out minor details that are not right. Besides that I found a perfect Belt, but it is black and not brown. Although it is perfect to go around my sash.

Speaking of the sash, it is not that perfect either. The lines are too close together but it still works. My friend is sewing it for me to make it really long.

Other then that I just need to order the compass from toys R us on their site. And they ship within 24 hours, I will be happy because my costume will be complete! Well, I am still waiting for my hat and sword, a little worried about both of those ebay users. *gasps*

If I had more money then I do right now, I would have spent more then I did to make it PERFECT, but that would have cost me a thousand dollars to get all the identical pieces.

I hope it gets a good reaction even though it is not perfect. I think the only thing I have to worry about is "acting" like him enough to get the attention, because if I saw someone dressed as Jack I would expect them to at least make a scene, THAT would get more attention then the costume itself. So Im not THAT worried about the minor mishaps of the costume because it all depends how well you can act as your character.

I am sometimes very particular about minor details... but they can be over looked if the person is in character...

things like the lines being too close together is fine by my book as long as it's red and not some other color like blue... saw one guy with a sheer fabric for his and though WTF?

I am debating on trying to find boots... or make them. I have small feet so it's hard to find things like "Pirates Boots" that will fit me. since it's more a man style. Heck, I even have trouble finding some shoes in womens style because of my show size...

Sonsko-chan
08-13-2006, 02:43 PM
If you're going to -act- your character, I've got no problems with minor details beingnot quite right. Even I've got details on my costumes that could use wrk. Plus, my chacarters are pretty minor, so I tend to act out of character and just as myself. ;.; (Time for a main cosplay, right? xD)

sweet_kat22
08-13-2006, 02:44 PM
Yeah I got small feet too. I dont think these boots fit me that well either but if I put on a thick pair of socks under them I will be fine in them lol.

Erm the boots I got are too much in womens style, so I am gonna have to use the suede to cover them otherwise they will know I am a girl.

Is there any other tips for making myself look less of a girl? I mean my boobs arent that big so I wont have trouble there, my butt certainly is big though, if I wear tight pants you can tell I got curves down there lol. Jack sparrow has curves :p Other then that, the Facial hair is the hardest part, I am still trying to get it done right. Oh and my wig sucks tottally, I think I need a new one Already! blah.

I tried to put on the whole thing today and didnt get very far, Darkening eye brows is not hard, (Use water proof masqeera) but the facial hair ruined it. I dunno how else to make it look real.

Sonsko-chan
08-13-2006, 02:47 PM
Err, you could try to find some sort of attachable stuff. (I'm think ing of a book where these two girls used like, prop hair to make themselves fuzzy and furry). xD

Some Maes Hughes cosplayers draw on their facial hair, but for Jack, maybe you could draw and attach somethng. (No duh, right? xD) Go buy a bbarbie with dark hair and use all of it's hair in braids and stuff. Like, attach the hair from the barbie, already in Jack style, to something you can, like, strap on to your chin or something.

Becareful when buying boots from ebay. This seller explain how handmade it was. But when i got in the mail, it was fake leather and there was a zipper on the side. It looked so fake and i wasted 40 bucks on it. I don t trust ebay on boots anymore. For the really good long lasting ones. Get them from a renaissance web or make them. Their hard to make but you can have the way you want them.

If they do say something just answer "You've got to much time on your hands, mate." and just don't worry about it:)

I might be havin' to use that boot tutorial for my boots, er boot:P I was going to buy some really nice ones from CA Boots but I don't have $200 to spend on a pair of boots where I'm only going to use one and ruin it with barnacles and other sea stuff.

If they do say something just answer "You've got to much time on your hands, mate." and just don't worry about it:)

Hehe, actually thats funny. And it just made me think of something, like we're all saying, if we stay in character then they wont care as much :)

Well, I am having my own worries about Ebay, I bought 3 pieces from there. I have 1 piece that came REALLY fast for me. The other 2 are taking AGES for them to even deliver. And I spent 70 bucks for each of those pieces. Sword and the hat, I need them so they damn well better send them. I have given them plenty of time. If it doesnt get here in time I will ask for a refund, because they told me they would send it in time before I bought them.

Im not buying anything else from ebay, I already got too many things to worry about being ripped off.

Paypal is VERY dangerous, Why? Because they recieve payment right away and they can just take the money and run. I even got a refund and it was 5 bucks less then it was supposed to be. But why the hell argue? Its only 5 bucks.

Just be VERY cautious when you guys buy stuff from ebay, make sure they have 100 perecent feedback, make sure that you got all the information straight, (Like how long shipping will take, how much shipping is, and how much the CANADIAN price is). 50 bucks american goes up to 70 bucks canadian.

Anyways, I could rant on about ebay, or I could buy Cheep pieces of costume that done look that great. I would rather have the professional stuff. And so far I am impressed with the Bandana I bought which looks identical to Jacks, I am hoping I dont get ripped off by the sword or hat guy.

Note: the only good thing about ebay is the Security you get, I heard that they can give you a refund if the person rips you off, but you cant get a total refund (Like you wont get the shipping refund). Otherwise, most sellers are easy to deal with, just make sure you get all the facts straight before you go ahead and throw money away.

Yeah, I posted a tutorial that I found. I just need to get the glue to glue the suede onto my black boots.

(Othewise they look like something Micheal jackson *GAG* would wear lol)

I found cement glue YAY, didnt even know we had some lol.

Did the Pearl leave the dock already? :bigcry: nooooo!
oh well hopefully it'll be back soon (or on ebay:rolleyes: )

Ok just because everybody loves a bad guy i'm thinking about making Davy Jones. I've figured out most of the difficult parts of the costume (the mask and hand will be sculpted then cast in latex, the crab hand will be sculpted then cast in fiberglass, ect.) but one part that has me stumped is the crab leg, how would I pull this off and not look cheesy?

Sorry i wrote back about this very late, but i might have a way for you to do the crab leg. For the easier way of doing it would be wearing a tight red stocking and red shoe. And just dirty it a little. it does might look cheesy but i don't think people are going to look at your feet first. Beside your mask will look the best of all.

Yeah erm, I messed it up. I used the fake suede, it didnt turn out that well. I waisted my time going to get the fabric yesterday, and my money. Blah, because the tutorial wasnt working I tried it myself lol. I might try again with different boots but I dunno. I already waisted a lot of glue lol.

<<< Jack agrees with me, Im crazy I cant make anything, I could never make crafts lol.

Yeah there was some at Micheals craft store, but they were tiny pieces of suede and 10 bucks per piece, that is TOO expensive. I didnt think I would make the boots right so I knew that I shouldnt buy those pieces lol.

Well um, I used cement glue, (Which works really well) If you know what you are doing. I cutt up the pieces, (but un evenly) And glued them on , but it looked crappy so I pulled them all off lol. As you can see I dont have much patience when it comes to making stuff, which is why I ordered most of my costume pieces :p My wig is also a disaster, I need a new one and I dunno where I will get one in time. I am not very good making any costumes without patterns. So here are some patterns that i am going to use. But i am going to change it a little.
http://www.simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=4092
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4861.htm?tab=costumes&page=3

one is for the skirt and overdress and the secound is the bodice. I realize it is a three piece dress.

sweet_kat22
08-14-2006, 10:51 AM
Nice Davvy Jones so far :skidude2:

And I have seen that pattern before for the dress, I think its supposed to be Liz's dress in the second movie. I was going to use the Jack pattern that is in the same book, but I decided not too, since everything I make turns into a disaster lol.

Eh I ordered my last piece of my costume The Compass! When I get my sword, hat and compass I am finally done with this bloody costume lol.

now I just have to hope that somebody signs up for the sewing class at Jo Ann so I can. I need to take it so I can logic myself out of a situation when I get stuck due to dyslexia. things like which way to lay a pattern. Eh we should put some lines together and do some voice acting lol. (I mean me and your lines together that be fun)

Your pretty good, I dont really remember how exactly he sounds because its been a bit since I seen the movie (Couple weeks I think).

I cant really think of any crticism because it sounds good to me.

I like the one hundred souls line heh.

Can you tell me where you got the lines from the movie? Because I can hardly remember half the lines except "I've got a jar of dirt!" I sound too girly when I say that one lol.

hmmm... your words seem to slur together. kinda sounds like a teenage drunk Jack. but you've got the inflections right.

when I slip into an accent, I use one phrase that I can say and then I can get the accent from that point forward. That way, if you loose it at any given time, you can say that line and find it again.

KatsuyaTsubasa
08-15-2006, 07:20 PM
I think it sounds great:bigtu: but maybe concentrate more on the accent than on trying to sound like a guy. btw I think voice acting would be fun:D great job !:bigtu: :bigtu:

Ok at least I have the male voice down then, I do try to do the accent at the same time.

What is funny, when me and my sister were little if I acted as a male, I would put a voice into it (When we used to play dolls) I always thought I sounded like a male. So I guess I wont have any problems if I get the accent right then eh :p

Is it bad that I am having fun acting as a male? I mean I know I am not a lesbian but what does it mean if I am just having more fun being a male then a female?

Gawd, I didnt realize how confusing cross cosplay would be.

And thanks for the link to the lines.

It is soo hard to talk like Tia. I need to watch the movie again to see how she does it.

sweet_kat22
08-16-2006, 11:26 AM
I think my throat is going to get sore by the end of the convention for doing Jacks voice. I may not do it the whole time but when people are around.

Actually if anything, Tias voice would be easier then Jacks wouldnt it? Even Davy Jones sounds easier (I think). And the easiest of all is Elizabeth because all you have to do is add a british accent lol.

Blah, I can't do the accent at the same time as making my voice low enough for Jack. It is hard!

Heh the hardest part will be calling the ladies "Lass or love" and the men "Mate". But thats how he talks :p

Actually practicing things I may say to other people at the convention like if someone compliments my costume "Thanks mate" Thanks lass" Its easier then a whole sentence. And stuff like "May I have your picture mate/lass" It really brings out the accent more. Besides asking stuff like where the washroom or food is thats about all I will be saying to other people. lol Oh and besides asking how much something is to buy. :)

Try that sometime when you are practicing a char's voice, it is much easier when you are making conversation instead of just doing a line from the movie.

I had another dream about being in costume, It was fun :) I had a telescope though, I dont have one for my costume :( Maybe I should get one lol.

Moon Prince
08-16-2006, 02:52 PM
yeah.. can't quote the movie all the time. *laughs at the image of Jack walking, stumbling... up to the young lady at the info desk* "Pardon me, love, but can you direct me to the nearest restroom? I have to pee"

Tia Dalma talks with a Jamacian accent.

Of all of them, Tia, Jack, Elizabeth.... Jack's is the hardest to keep up for me. I don't know how low I can get my voice. I have a low 2nd sop/high alto voice. i think Johnny's is about a mid tenor/low tenor

sweet_kat22
08-16-2006, 10:41 PM
Heh, actually there will be over 30, thousand people I think at this convention so I will probably be just asking some random person. I probably wont even know where to find an information desk. As far as I remember from the last CN anime, there was the ticket desk, and then the escolators, in the lobby then upstairs was where everyone else was at the booths.

piratelife4me
08-16-2006, 11:37 PM

Im used to it.

Moon Prince
08-17-2006, 02:17 AM
*laughs* yeah. I know what you mean... My friend looks at me funny when I speak with Elizabeth's accent.

I am trying to figure out where my Jack voice comes from... that is nasal or throat. I think it's more nasal for me... if it's a throat voice it's not a constricted one like Yoda or Pee Wee Herman... yeah, I tend to do a lot of differnt voices..

sweet_kat22
08-17-2006, 11:26 AM

KatsuyaTsubasa

Well, the only thing you can do is search on Ebay for jacks head scarf.

I hate myself today, I broke my stick (the one that goes in his hair) while I was fooling around in front of the mirror again.

Anyway, I posted a bit further back the Ebay members name I bought my head scarf from which is really professional, but breakable which I just found out today lol.

YAY I fixed my boots, I painted one of them today and put on the top part. I am so proud of myself for making something that is not a disaster :) It doesnt look that bad actually, even though my paint is a different color from the fabric, you cant tell from a distance really.

And now I dont have to worry about getting boot covers, these boots RULE :p heh, sorry just a bit excited. Although I still dont know if my Wig looks crappy in the back from when I cutt it :( But if it doesnt then I dont need to get another one, and I am done spending on this costume lol.

OMG I am going to be able to have a picture for you guys this Saturday, because I am getting together with my group to reherse our Skit for the Masquerade, So I am going to get a pic of my costume so far :p I am so excited lol.

you know... I could help thinking that that stick looks like a chopstick... I think it's like a bone in reality? but it looks like a chopstick... I think that is what I'm going to use.

I found a fabric that will work for Jack's sash.. while not perfect in pattern (stripes are a little too close) it's the right color and texture, so it will do just fine.

For Jack's sail needle, I just widdled down a small piece of wood I bought for cheap at Wal-Mart and painted it with watered down paint for that bone quality. Very easy, very fast. Definitely not worth the $30 some people charge for it on ebay.

Anyway! That's not why I'm here. I have a question that I've been searching through cosplay.com's archives for a still haven't found any useful information.

I need a powdered wig for Commodore Norrington. I want it to look good, not like the cheap, plasticy Halloween kind they sell. But I'm having the hardest time finding any quality colonial wigs. Does anyone know of a place to buy these, or perhaps a method of making one out of another wig? Any help or advice would be much appreciated :)

Kat, you are really making me want to actually go to CNA (a lot of reasons I won't go into because hobbystar could be watching. =P). XD Just to see your costume when it's finished! Are you planning on attending the Pirate Festival at Fort York in TO?

It's quite sad that all my costume ideas that I'm really excited for right now are all Elizabeth outfits. XD; Damn these movies for being so good and with pretty costumes.

Anyways, I have a question. How would you describe Elizabeth's haircolour? I know it seems to change in every scene (ranging from light brown to golden blonde) but I'm currently looking for a wig and I'm not even sure what colour (name) I'm looking for. o_o Also, if anyone has suggestions on a style of wig that would work feel free to give input. :3
