WAIT!! Is it about people who live on the back of a whale and the guy in it has to do something to a Phoenix to get horses or something???
If so, I've heard of it and PM Arisu-chan. She's looking for evadence it exsists.

I've read.. an several page excerpt of it from a book called "Manga! Manga! The World of Japanese Comics". The section was about reincarnation.. I thought it was really interesting. If it's being put out by Viz now, I'll definately have to look into it. :)

"Phoenix is Tezuka's most intellectually challenging experiement. Man's quest throughout the ages for the mythological phoenix, and for immortality, is used as a framework to analyze the meaning of life. The story converges on the present from both the future and the past, and jumps at random from ancient Japanese history to thousands of years in the future. Often the same characters appear in different reincarnations."
-- an excerpt from Manga! Manga! The World of Japanese Comics by Frederik L. Schodt
Apparently the part of Phoenix I mentioned reading is from volume four. ^^ It's only a piece of a chapter, so I'm definately buying that volume in English when it comes out. ^___^ And perhaps I'll look into 1-3, too!
Tezuka Osamu called it his life work, hence it's.. a "12 volume epic tale". :P Interesting.
