View Full Version : how many nights to stay? advice needed

I'm looking at booking the hotel room for CC25 right now, but I don't know how early things start on the first day or how late things go on the last. I'm basically wondering if I should try to come down the night before (the 29th, I think it is) or arrive the morning of (30th)? I'm also curious about if I should check out on the last day of the con (2nd)and arrange a flight for later that night, or if it's better to stay that night as well and fly out the next morning (3rd)? 4 nights or 5?
I went to CC24's homepage to see if I could get an idea about the schedule, but as the con is over, it's no longer up.
Any help would be appreciated!

From CC24, we went down the night before and stayed the night with relatives. The only thing before lunch on Friday was ICG meeting, so if you're not a member or don't want to attend, don't worry about coming before noon. Monday we left after closing ceremony around 3:00 pm. I know a lot of people flew out that night, too, although some stayed to Wed.
I'd confirm all this with BuddyCat before you schedule, though, just in case they're moving the ICG mtg back to Mon.

Thanks, Aurora! I look forward to his answer.

Aurora is mostly correct. The arc of the convention is that "Hostility" will open on Thursday night for people to pick up their membership packets. It's a good time to meet folks and hang out with early arrivals. The ICG meeting is tentatively scheduled for Friday morning, with light programming opposite of it. Monday will also be lightly programmed up until early afternoon or so, I expect.
In the evening, I also anticipate the stragglers will go somewhere for dinner. At CC16, we had over 40 people descend on a local Mexican restaurant and everyone had a great time. Then, the 3rd ever Mousekerade is supposed to happen back at the Hostility Room again. So, the Dead Dog party is a good time to relax and talk with people you've met over the weekend (this is a really good time to talk to the Old Guard). Things will eventually wind down and people will be driven from the room at some point, I suspect.
If you can come in early and/or leave late you can take in some of the local tourist stuff like the Arch, sample some Ted Drewe's frozen custard (I think they'll have one of their stands open, anyway, despite cool temperatures), the Zoo, Grant's Farm, the Art Museum, etc.

Ok, thanks! I don't know if I'll be able to get that much time off, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to miss anything really important if I arrived the morning of or left the last day in the evening.

That's okay. Just wanted to make sure of what will be going on so you can decide what you don't want to miss. :)
