This thread is basically meant to be a place where people can go to directly instead of creating a new thread to ask a question thats probably been covered a number of times already. I'll be updating it as much as possible over the next few weeks covering a range of topics from reference images to threads discussing aspects of the costume to tutorials.

Please feel free to ask for anything if it isn't covered and add anything in the way of images or link or even suggestions for things to add.

*update section*
In the process of going through each board looking for decent threads, there will be a couple overlaps. If anyone has anything to add it would be a great help.

Yep, once I get it all cleaned up and everything I'm going to dig through the boards to find discussions and tutorials.

As soon as I get done with most of my costume-related things and start my props, I'll try to keep track of my Kairi Keyblade (perhaps along with pictures) so I can make a tutorial for it. I'm not saying there'll be anything before December, but just a heads up. =D

Ooo that will be awesome to add to the list, and don't worry I'm expecting to be working on this for the next couple months before I get it to where I want it.

Organization XIII boots: http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=87200&highlight=larxene
And I think Cora also made a post about the boots in the official Orgy XIII thread? But I could be wrong... ^_^;;

I don't know if these belong in this thread, but I think this thread is a great idea so I'm going to try to contribute as much as possible. ^_^;;

Thanks a ton for the tutorial... it is going a little slowly so far but i'm hoping to get more accomplished on it when i can spare more than an hour to searching the boards.

Did I? I don't remember. At the very least it was a: hey lookie what I made!!!! type of thing. I still have the picture in my gallery.

I should make a tutorial when I get home...if I have time *hahahahaha whut*

edit: should probably gank a couple of the threads from this forum about the Orgy coat and stick them under general discussion outfit discussion...^^; *would link you, but hi, lazy, and needs to sleep x.x;*

Any good distinct screenshots/artwork of Yensid (Yen Sid, The sorcerer)? He seems to be one of the only characters (along with Pete) that haven't been cosplayed yet, and he's also been my favorite Disney character for as long as I can remember.

Anywhere I could find images from the back, perhaps? I lack a copy of the game for a while. D:

Thanks for the images and input so far, I've added the new links along with a few more links in the KH2 section.

Visual Prince,

I don't have any screen caps of the back at the moment from the game or any of the shots from my costume but I can describe it to you. The checkered pattern that runs up the front of the shoulders on the front continues around the shoulder to the back, to right about where it makes the 90 degree turn in the front and forms a straight line across the back. Also the chap looking pieces on the pants are exactly the same in the back as they are in the front and the grommet holding them on are in the same places, there should be a total of 3 on each leg.

And the bottom of his shoes, since the backs are almost entirely covered by his oh-so-fly jeans.

Not sure how useful it is, but I'll try to contribute if I can. ^^;;

I have a tutorial for Roxas's hair (for wigs): http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=97834

I'll hopefully have one for an Axel wig (http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=954088) within the next month as well (and a hairline reconstruction tutorial with it, though not many character aside from Axel really need much of a custom hairline)...

This may be sort of off-topic, but does anyone really know of a color scheme for Axel?

Supposedly all of Tetsuya Nomura's characters go by a color scheme, and for some reason Axel eludes me...I've had many say that red, yellow, and green with black accents...but I've also had some just say a fire gradient also, I'm trying to design a Yukata for him, but he just doesn't seem like the type to wear a yukata plain...

How would one describe the style of Kingdom Hearts wear? It's a mix, but I can't really distinguish it...yeah. >_>; *sneaksneak*

Oh. What I meant by style....like, a category. For example: Rennaisance, goth, sci-fi, something like that. I have a feeling it's falling in between street, urban, and something else...

Hope that helps. Unless I was a dork and answered it myself. :9

I always thought his designs were pretty techie with street and urban elements...it's cool how he manages to take common place clothes and re-vamp them...though he needs to take a break from all the zipper and belt love once in while in my humble opinion, I keep expecting him to come up with an outfit that's all zippers or belts...

I have a question that I hope someone here can answer. I found a pattern for the Organization cloaks, but I need cutting and sewing directions for it. Also, I'm cosplaying Marluxia and my hair is already brown, but I want to put (temporary) pink highlights in it. Is it safe to color my hair with sharpie?

Oh, and here is the pattern:

For your hair NO don’t Sharpie it since the ink is permanent!

I recommend using Manic Panic’s hair gel instead
http://www.manicpanic.com/dhgels.html

it doesn’t look all that accurate to me in terms of shape but It’s not the right style as well It’s just a general jacket and there would be several alteration you would need to make.

-Kitsu
06-20-2007, 10:31 AM
The manic panic hairgel acts much like the, I believe its got2b color'd gel, the colors come out ok at best but its a gel so you end up with a really bad streak/greasy look for a hairstyle that supposed to be light and kindna fluffy.

If you're going to stick with your own hair you could get away with temp dying it with a watered down pink dye or just leave it on for about half the time is describes on the package. This method really shouldn't be used if you only need the color for a weekend and its necessary for it to be gone at the end of the weekend.

Also if you have a Sally's beauty supply near you they also carry a better version of the color'd hairspray you come across around Halloween. This could also be a possible method to getting the look you want but its really tricky to get the color to look even and not end up all over the rest of your face.

Can anyone give me some ideas on how to make Axels weapons? At most craft stores, you can find thin metal rings or foam circles you can use as a base. I'd say get the foam circles as the base, use craft foam [like what they use as goofy hats for kids] and make the design. Then you'd just need to glue it all onto the base. It'd be soft so you won't really hurt anyone if you accidentally hit someone and they'd be light enough to carry around all day. Or if you wanted it to be a little firmer, you could coat it in resin so it won't bend.

Wood works too, but that'd take carving.

Also, I really really need a lot of refrence shots of her hair in KH2. I can't really find many good refrence shots for her whole head, just the front and such.

Go the Roxas way and use popsicle sticks :D

I bet that if that little brat got bored enough, he could make all of the weapons out of popsicle sticks... 'cept maybe the sitar. That thing would be like... a gabajillion popsicle sticks just to get the bulgy in the back XD

Does anyone have a clean image of the blue heart shape behind the KH logo? I'd rather not have to painstakingly clean the thing up myself as I have little skill and a wimpy paint program. Google has failed me in finding one.

Here's an image that might help you: http://cgi.ebay.com/Disney-KINGDOM-HEARTS-Necklace-Pendant-CT267_W0QQitemZ310022106666QQihZ021QQcategoryZ1345 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

eBay was the only place I found find such a picture, because I remembered that there was a necklace made of the just the heart shape in the logo and not the whole logo itself. I hope the link was helpful. :D

Hey guys, I need some help with my Namine cosplay. The only thing is I can't find a decent, non-see through fabric at a reasonable price to make the dress out of. I have a pattern that's similar to her dress, but it just needs to be cut a few inches shorter, and the straps possibly might need to be sewn on different... And for the bottom, I'm not sure if I should cut it in a pattern that looks like the little fringes at the bottom, or just use some seashell-looking lace... Any advice?

I think she should use sheer fabric, just so she doesnt have to worry about getting her costume dirty. Also here's a HQ pic of Vivi in KH2:

Can someone please help me with what color wig I should get for Saix? I'd really appretiate it ^.^

Personally, I would try a Punky XL in Blue (not Light Blue or Dark Blue, but Blue). I'm not sure if I've actually seen this color in person or not, but that's the one that I would try. I've seen several Saix wigs that are either too light or too sea-green, but this color I think would work well. Perhaps try checking the Cosworx Wigs in Action thread on the wig forum to see if someone has a picture of their wig in that particular color to be sure.

Also, you could probably get some sharpies in a shade or two darker and do some quick coloring to give the wig a little more dimension ^_^

Can anyone help me figure out how to do the sorta triangles at the bottom of yuna's shirt? also, how would i attach the pink part of it too? I don't really want to thread to show up on the shirt, but if I can't avoid it, it's not a big deal either. I would just cut it, but then i'm afraid it'll fray or curl because i'm actually using a t-shirt and just adding things to it. here's a picture http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0b/Yuna.jpg

Hiya, I figured I'd post here since I've been looking all over the forums and can't find the info that I need...

I'm looking to cosplay as Marluxia at a con in Western Australia. I'm fine on the coat; there are HEAPS of threads on here which are a ginormous help on that subject. What I'm stuck on is the scythe. I know it's recommened to make it out of insulation foam and pvc piping... which is the where the problems start... :sulk:

From the information I've gathered on the site, I know that the 'pink foam' has several alias's :toothy: ;"rigid insulation foam", "styrofoam extruded polystyrene board" (apparently this one is blue,) "pink foamular rigid foam insulation" (this is one is pink,) and "polystyrene insulation."

In Australia, there's pretty much one major hardware store that sells EVERYTHING. So, I went to Bunnings, asked the people from several departments about it, and none of them had any idea what I was talking about. :lost: One guy suggested that I go to a surf-board shop, or buy some boogie boards and cut them up. Yeah, not gonna happen. I asked someone at work and they suggested going to the store 'Clark Foam and Rubber' ...

(And still in Bunnings, I asked them if they had any PVC piping, and apparently they didn't know what THAT was, either.)

I was just wondering, though, if anyone out there might have ANY idea where to buy this foam stuff in Australia. If I can't go as Marluxia (because that prop is pretty damned big) I wanted to go as Axel, but failing those two (which pretty much depend on the foam for pricing and the ease with which I can shape them etc) I'm going to have to play Larxene (not that she isn't an intrestering character, of course.)

So if anyone out there can help or offer any suggestions, I would be really grateful. Thank you in advance :)

The pink insulation foam is generally used in insulating houses. I'm not up on the house-constructing industry in either country, but it's possible that different materials are used in Australia (though I'm finding it a little hard to believe that they can't even match you up with something equivalent to polystyrene insulation, or something like that).

My suggestion would be to pop over to the Props forum and ask them what they think. There might be people over there who have a better idea.

Also, everyone please keep in mind that this is a resource thread. If you have specific questions pertaining to props and wigs, you'd most definitely get better response in the forums dedicated specifically to those topics.

Err...I think you mean black. Roxas' pants are black, not green. And you'll probably want to use Gray or Khaki, not white.

Look up "chaps" - that's essentially what they are, though slightly modified.

I saw a lot of tips on styling wigs but is it the same for real hair? I have never had my hair this short before and have never spiked it or even tried. My hair is thick and about to my shoulders. I have asked a couple of people and they all say got2b is the best to use and I saw it in one of the threads. So I am thinking about going with that styling glue but if anyone has any tips that differ from the wig styling tips then I would love to know thank you.

@Nightlovechild: Yes, got2b glued or any other strong-hold spray will help you style your hair in spikes for Axel's type of hair. Normally the spiking methods for wigs can be used on real hair if you use hair products.

@Nae: What sort of help? I mean, what version of Terra are you doing? Armored, or not armored?

Or you could just cut the legs off of a baggy khaki pair of pants hem the edge you cut and attatch it to preexisting black pants thats what I'm doning and it looks a lot like the ones in the game. Paint it on? Or!!! Use vinyl and cut it out and stick it on if it's a hard book..

..or paint.

Braithcakes

I'd say yeah either to the vinyl, like gskills said, or paint.

you could, even, print out a piece of paper, cut out a stencil of construction paper, and spray paint them silver on.

that's how I made his symbols on a friend's book, althoug I did use silver craft vinyl for the "metal" edges.

Would anyone happen to know how to make the little charm that Namine "gives" to Sora and Riku. The paopu one?

Also I'm thinking of making the cards from CoM and was wondering if just regular cardboard would work. IF so, should I try to put similar card images on them (Like the Soul Eater, a Map card thingy, and maybe a potion one or so) or should I Just keep them all a solid color?

Well what I did was take one of my thicker sketchbooks, that had a hard cover, and painted the outside of it black and painted all the details on, doing the smaller ones with a silver sharpie. That probably isn't the best way to do it but I was crunched for time and it came out alright.

Your 7year old is MAKING a cosplay? Wow..Must be a talented kid lol but remember, HE has to be the one making it..Though it's going to be hard to win with that cosplay as it is all normal clothing you can buy at a store and alter..But if he is going to make it I suggest going the easy route and tracing a t-shirt on the fabric with about half inch for the seam, then getting a pattern for normal shorts. Maybe making altering the pattern for the shorts to make them smaller length wise because they go above his knees a little and normal shorts go below..Then making the bags on them that are on the sides. As for the sandals, you may want to just buy them..Get the Adidas boys sandals that have the Velcro strap and paint the yellow. Then obviously get a wig or style his hair..i say an ebay wig as he is still a kid so ebay ones should fit him better then if he were older..

Any ideas how to approach Sora's KH2 belt? I can't seem to find an accurate belt or at the very least just the buckle and belt tip anywhere...

You won't. Sorry to say. You can make it though (or have it commissioned) I'd use sculpy style clay, bake it, then use blue vinyl belting for the belt part. You can alsi make the silver belt tip out of clay and attach it

Aurora's Heart
04-07-2013, 12:59 AM
BacklightSora- The belt is acctually one of the most simple things on the entire outfit. The best way to make it is to go find a good leather belt. You can get something good for 10-15 dollars if you know how to find the sales. Kholes is usually a good place to look and they almost always have their belts on sale. THe next thing you will need is good acrylic paint. I prefer the Basic brand found at most craft or art stores. You can pretty much find the exact shade you want as they come in a variety. The smaller tube will be more than enough for this. The reason I like this kind of paint is because it is flexible and bonds really well to leather. I've acctually used this to paint shoes I needed a certain color they didn't sell. I would suggest you get a blue color that matches, a white, and a silver. (Most places like Michales have 40% off coupons every week or sometimes Sunday specials for a percentage of your entire purchase. They also go on sale from time to time)

Once you have that. You simply paint the belt blue leaving space on the end for the silver end piece. You may have to add a few coats of paint but no more than three. It just depends on the belt. Once you are finished with that you paint the left over spot white before painting it in the silver. The reason for this is the silver can be a bit thin and doesn't cover completly without a few coats. This should cut back on the amount you need to use. After it dries you have your finished belt. I'll post my Rikku(FFX) belt I made in the same way to show you what it will look like.

Option2 for the end part- If you want a more accurate end part or aren't happy with how the paint looks you can make it out of craft foam. There are several different thicknesses you can get to match the belt and most sheets of it cost less than 3 dollars. All you have to do is cut the shape out and paint it. I still recomend getting a white craft foam and painting it silver. Once the end part is done you can glue it to the belt using E-6000 glue. Again you can find this in most craft stores. I've used almost every kind of glue out there and I highly recoment this kind. It bonds anything to anything. This method is a millon times better than sculpy clay. For one it is lightweight and won't turn your belt into a weapon. Not only that, you will never have to stress over it breaking. I have used sculpy to make a belt buckle for a Star Wars costume and it lives in buble wrap when I'm not wearing it and I'm constantly stressing over it breaking or comming off when I do wear it. Costumes should not stress you out!!

I hope this helps and believe me, I understand the stress of finding belts and things like that which match the costume you are making. I think it took me 4 months to find a double holed belt for Rikku(FFX). ;)

If I decide not to just get a similar enough looking buckle, I'll have to look into making the buckle and tip myself out of an alternate material and painting it silver/chrome. If not a really thick craft foam or sculpting clay, then I'll possibly just use Wonderflex, since I'm looking into using that for my shoulder armor as well. Thanks for the help, friends. :bigtu:

Not sure if anyone has brought this up before, but upon being rather unhappy with the Aqua cosplay I bought, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the outfit by hand? It's not the usual kind of clothing, and I barely know anything about sewing. It will be a huge project.

This is a pretty dead forum, I'd just take this question over to the fabrics forum of the site. You will get much better and WAY faster answers there.
