We're planning on a new event for Sunday afternoon: the Gothic Mad Tea Party. An excuse to wear your EGL, this will be an extra-charge ticketed event (to pay for the tea party food we're ordering from the hotel). But some time after everyone's been served, we'll open the doors wide and let everyone else in to hang out and take pictures.

Hanaco (of Akibiyori fame) is organizing it. We'll have more to announce later.

We just decided that this afternoon. It'll be $10, and it'll start at 1:00 pm on Sunday, running until sometime about 2:00-3:00.

We plan to have it on the hotel restaurant's patio.

As soon as I get the website shopping cart software configured, you'll be able to sign up. I'll post a note when that's squared away.

I've been asked to step in and give you the details as I will be cordinating the tea party, and I plan to have lots of great things in store for all of you.

Once I gather all the details, I'll let you all know but I look forward to seeing you all!

EGL and EGA as well as other japanese street fashions (Kogaru, Ganuro, FRUiTs, etc.) are highly encouraged. We're doing an Alice in Wonderland theme, but it's not a requirement. Oh, and Resin kids are highly welcome! :D (Bring out your babies, everyone!!)

Anyone not wearing a costume will be Assisted in this department. So, don't worry too much if you feel like wearing plain clothes due to Check-out... I won't say what kind of assistance but as an example, I have something quite fun planned for Chaz (Our Chairman) xD

I really do want people to know, Tickets are VERY limited so if you want one please grab on the site now. I know lots of people tend to wait very last minute on these things and I'm not sure how fast these will sell once we get to the con.

Okay, so its probably super obvious, and I'm going to look dumb, BUT... where on the site are you selling tickets to the Mad tea party? I can't seem to find it anywhere! I apologize.

Also, if your short on volunteers at this time (or any time, really, its just that during this time it wouldn't conflict with all the panels I'm going to, haha ^^; ) just say the word! If the con is in need I would love to help :)

You get tickets when you register for the convention. IF you've already registered, we'll have to take it up with the Chair, but I could be wrong D:

And volunteer anyway. :D It's fun!

Hi hon, Plz send me a pm with her name and I'll forward it over to the Chair. It's likely this was a mistake on our part and a ticket was purchased for her or there are two in your name.

What would you say to not waiting until next year? There are a number of teahouses around the Southland, you could organize a dutch-treat tea party easily enough. Costumers Guild West does a tea party every month...

Colleen's Tea Room List for Southern California

Always call for reservations.
Prices shown are approx. as of Jan. 2007.

Price is for an afternoon tea that I would choose, consisting of sandwiches, a scone and tea, usually with dessert. Usually there are other menu options, both more and less expensive. Check when you call for reservations.
If there is one price, and I've noted "set," it means that they have a buffet or only one choice of afternoon tea.

A group of 6-8 or more will sometimes be required to select the same tea and a gratuity will be added.

The special holiday tea was a set price of $20 per person, slightly higher than their regular teas.

Two A Tea had a special holiday menu planned, as well as having the whole interior done up for Christmas and special holiday china. They brought pot after pot of lovely tea. After sampling a Christmas blend, peach apricot, cherry vanilla, and forestberry, I decided that chocolate caramel was my favorite, a light alternative to hot chocolate.

The Queen's Holiday tea included a tiny scoop of lemon pomegranate sorbet, which seemed odd for a tea at first, but was wonderfully tart and sweet, just the thing between courses. There were six little savories, including a caramelized onion, mushroom, spinach, gruyere pinwheel. And there were (I think) 4 little sweets, not including the full-sized peach and fig scone with clotted cream.

There were several different tea menus. I chose "Tudor House Afternoon Tea," which consisted of grapes, a salad, a sausage roll or quiche, two tea sandwich triangles, a scone with butter and jam, and a dessert for $13.95. I paid $2 extra to get devonshire cream.

The sausage roll was a little too large for my tastes. I think about half would have been right. It was ground sausage encased in a flaky pastry. I chose cream cheese, herb, and walnut sandwich. Maria chose cucumber, and we traded a piece. Both sandwiches were triple decker on dark bread. It was good for the cream cheese, but I prefer my cucumber to be on white bread. The scone was very much more English than my last scone experience. It was studded with raisins and currants. It was a teensy bit on the dry side but still good.

I had the Red Rose (House) tea. I think I preferred the rose tea at the Ivy Rose Tea Cottage in Long Beach. For dessert I chose the lemon curd open faced jam tart. Wow! It was quite good. The crust was shortbread, and it had the loveliest crunch to it.

Ivy Rose is a little cottage in Long Beach. At the entrance is a rack full of hats and boas to wear. We each put one on, but put them back pretty quickly. They were hot.

We had the "Tea for Two," which was a shared pot of tea, and a plate of treats each. Tracy picked our tea, Rose, which was really very good. The plate of treats was a scone, raspberry jam, clotted (not whipped) cream, and four tea sandwiches: Cheddar with mango chutney, tuna, egg, and something with cucumber. The scones were good. Tracy had a slice of lemon cake for dessert, and I had another two finger sandwiches, egg and cheddar/mango chutney. MMM!

Tues-Sun 10:30-7:00. Afternoon Tea $17.00.

It was the most gorgeous presentation I had ever seen. I really wished I had a camera with me.
We both selected tea number 20, which, oddly enough, was called number 25. If I remember correctly, it was ginger, cinnamon, mango, and vanilla. It didn't need sugar, but I couldn't resist the brown sugar lumps they offered. We were both tempted by "The Des Concubines," but our menu listed it as being a green tea, which is too strong.

The food was two finger egg sandwiches, two scones, clotted cream, marmalade, a mini spinach and mushroom tart, a slice of orange(?) pound cake, a sponge-type cookie with chocolate chips, and five or six of their little cakes, made up into bite-sized pieces.

The scones were not traditional British scones, being softer. They were more like an orange biscuit (American biscuit, not British). The marmalade was probably tangerine, and it was better than most marmalades I've had. It wasn't bitter or too sweet.

The bite-sized pastries were delicate and beautiful and melty. The seating is outdoors only, so by the time I got to the chocolates, they were beyond too soft to eat with a fork. :( I think we got chocolate heaven and belgium marquise, but it was difficult to tell, because they were so soft.

The patio we sat on was lovely, but try not to wear sandals, as the floor is dirt. The company was lovely, too. A couple from Scotland and a woman from England were seated next to us, and we compared our favorite tea houses around L.A.

I recommend Jin Patisserie highly for its tea and cakes. The presentation of the afternoon tea was one of the most outstanding I've ever seen, but it is not a traditional British afternoon tea. I'd definitely go back, especially if I wanted to impress a chocolate lover.

I think the first thing I need to do is figure out who's interested, and start calling around! :3
