View Full Version : Eminem... Oscar winner?

03-24-2003, 12:59 PM
How shock was everyone who watch the Oscars when you heard that he won for Best Original song? I know I was. Maybe some of you weren't. I guess I wasn't expecting him to win. Or anybody for that matter. ^^;

03-24-2003, 01:03 PM
I dunno who else was up for an award, because I didn't watch them..

But something about Eminem winning an Oscar makes me feel uneasy inside. ^_^;

U2 was up for an Oscar for their song, "The hands that build America." from the Gangs of New York. I throught they would win, but that didn't happen. Or even that song from Chicago...*shrugs* ^^;

03-24-2003, 01:48 PM
DUDE. Eminem won over U2 and the movie Chicago? I feel really sick now. ^^;

03-24-2003, 06:11 PM
Yeah, and I heard that he didn't even want to attend the Oscars; he didn't care. I think that someone else should've won -- not him. But oh well. What's done is done.

03-24-2003, 06:30 PM
Gonna barf. Eminem won over u2!? What is this world coming to. I am so disgusted.

03-24-2003, 06:41 PM
Eminen is ok but U2 as waayyy better. there is something really wrong with that.

03-24-2003, 08:48 PM
I think I'm the only one who thinks Eminem really should have won...seriously...that song is friggin' awesome, and there was nothing that particularly jumped out at me about the other songs. Just my opinion, mind you. I also don't think that just because a band is established and considered great (aka U2) that everything they do should be considered wonderful...they can produce crap, too.

03-24-2003, 08:50 PM
KitsuNessa ~ I don't think it has anything to do with Eminem not being good.. or anything.. It's just .. the OSCARS.. and I would easily believe what Tenjou said about him not even wanting to attend and care. ~_~;

03-24-2003, 08:52 PM
Well, Michi, the Oscars aren't limited to an elite group of people...they just are THE awards show...and while it was weird to hear his name and "And the Oscar goes to..." in the same sentence, I think it's pretty darn cool. ^_^ LOL and I wouldn't expect him to want to attend the Oscars...it'd prolly be damn boring for someone like him...

03-24-2003, 08:52 PM
I must admit I'm very biased. Simply because I do not like Eminem's music or his views. (I can't stand to listen to it, so I went and read a bunch of lyrics. I was appauled.) However I know nothing about the song in question. I mean, if it isn't about hating gays and killing women, maybe it's good? O.o Eminem's music makes me feel icky inside.

03-24-2003, 08:52 PM
Well, the reason I think U2 should have won over Eminem is the fact that I am a huge U2 fan and I really dislike Eminem's music and things he has said. However, the song he got an award for was less offensive to the ears than most of his stuff I've heard.

I'll admit that I have not heard the song U2 was nominated for, but I have also never heard ANYTHING by them that was crap. :)
This is just my opinion though.

<edit> G-chan mentioned a reason I dislike Eminem. His lyrical statements are disgusting to me.

03-24-2003, 08:56 PM
Yeah, I mean, I really liked Eminem's "Lose Yourself"...it had a great message. Don't give up, you get one shot sometimes, put all your effort into it, and just go with it.
Frankly, I haven't heard that U2 song ANYWHERE on the radio or TV (first time I heard it was in a pre-Oscar special), and it sounded not to be anywhere near their usual caliber of music. ~_~

Just a case of one song versus another. Eminem's was chosen the better song; he'll probably never win another Oscar, but this was his one shot. ^_~ kinda fitting for the song itself, eh?

good point KitsuNessa, also considering his background it's quite the accomplishment and while I'm a fan of U2 they've had their share of awards and Eminen needs credit for his overall creativity and bluntness. in the words of eminem himself
"I'm like a head trip to listen to
cause I'm only givin you things
you joke about with your friends inside you livin' room
the only difference is I got the balls to say it
in front of ya'll and I aint gotta be false or sugar coated at all
I just get on the mic and spit it
and whether you like to admit it (riiip)
I just shit it better than 90% you rappers out can"

he makes a valid point you must admit

I was disgusted that Eminem won last night. I have no respect for him, and I'm so sick of the media kissing his butt. I was even more disgusted that somehow he won over the other songs that were nominated, especially U2. All four songs were beautiful, but U2's hit me right in the heart. Way to go, Academy >.>.

03-24-2003, 10:28 PM
*shrug* I was glad to see Eminem win. I'm really not a fan of his at all, but that was a good song. And I don't fault him for not going to the Oscars. Woody Allen doesn't go to the Oscars either, and he's won a couple.

U2 is overrated. >.> *hides* I'm sorry, but Bono is not nearly as cool as he thinks he is, and that bugs me. He's way too concious of his image. Also, Hands That Built America sounded like a lot of their old stuff; it didn't feel like a new song to me. >.>;

I didn't even watch it. All im going to say is, I don't much or anything, but, If I hear that song one more time...@_@ ;;;
every station rock/rap/pop/) its ON On on on on on on .@_____________@

03-25-2003, 12:41 AM
I don't really feel like Bono is all that image concious. I believe he uses his image/the bands popularity to try to help people. I have been a fan of theirs since I was about five. (With or Without you is the first song I remember ever thinking "Hey I like this"). But you are entitled to your opinion Zoi! ^__^

I didn't see the Oscars, but if Eminen won over U2 we're going: "straight to hell"

04-18-2003, 02:24 AM
damn. lot of eminem haters here Oo;
honestly, i guess i cant blame ya'll
i like his music but i still disagree with
alot of the lyrics.

as for the whole not showing up to the oscars thing i dont think its cuz he woulda been bored, hell he was probably at home biting his nails off but it was an image thing.

i dont know if it was the best song outta the three cuz i never heard the other 2 songs other than the clip they play before the awards are announced but i do like it.

04-18-2003, 07:07 AM
I don't think all of us hate Eminen, I don't I have all his albums and the 8 mile OST. But U2 is like one of the greatest bands ever, they make great music and do great things. When a new music artist, a rapper, wins over U2 which was been in the hearts of many for over 20 years something is tainted in the world. It's something you thought never would happend. Like the first time tey gave out the metal Grammy and some wierd band won over Metallica (the other band wasn't metal)

04-19-2003, 02:56 PM
Eminem didn't attend, some say due to the Oscars wanting him to change his song for the broadcast... which he said he wouldn't do and he didn't.

I wasn't surprised that he won, I guess he can say that he won an Oscar before Will Smith. Anyways Oscars aren't the be all and end all of all awards as its has basically become a marketing tool and has basically come down to we'll award you with this... although you didn't deserve it now, but rather because we didn't award you some time ago because we were awarding another movie that we owe before.

Thats where you get 'There You'll Be' not win, Denzel winning for a weak performance... everyone complaining because Scoresse didn't win because they owe it to him (even though GONY isn't really a 'Best Picture').

LOL JustinCredible, if i look at your avatar in the corner of my eye he blinks. SCARY! but anyway... er... Eminem is a little bit old for me... he was more interesting when he was newer, probably because i had never really heard anything like his music (though i'm sure his style had been at least partially done before)... still, i don't really like U2 all that much... ~_~ sorry... i didn't even watch the oscars, but if Eminem won, congratulations to him... makes no difference to me ^_^

I have to admit that "Loose Yourself" is one of his better songs. I'm not his biggest fan, but this is an improvement from his earlier works. I thought it was a rather well written song, but Oscar worthy? Nah.

I felt either Paul Simon or U2 deserved it more. I was expecting "The Hands that Built America" to win - even over "I Move On"
