I took quite a few screen captures from the ballroom scene and found some really high res ones of Squalls SeeD uniform. I've collected them on my web site:

http://www.divideby0.com/cosplay/resources/seed_uniform/

If you need more of them from anywhere in the game, check out:

http://eyesonff.com/ff8/screens.shtml

Good luck. :)

hm.. i'm planning on doing a squall ballroom uniform to wear to my school's winter formal next year. do you have anymore big picture of squall's front designs ducky?

ducky_feet

I sure do. Here you go:

BTW, I love the idea of someone wearing Squall's ballroom outfit to a formal dance. It's a nice change from the usual suits. ^__^

Oh wow! Those three shots are really good, ducky! ^^ *pokes Linku*

Thanks, Michi! I was finally able to capture those shots after several tries of click-pause, click-pause, click-pauses. Persistence paid off in the end, LOL.

Yes it did! Hee. I'm the one that bugged Link to do Squall's ballroom uniform this year in the first place, so I'm all excited for good reference shots. XD!!

Ah, so we have YOU to thank! Yay! Make sure you both (Link and Blargh) flaunt that uniform every chance you get! ;)

wow thanks for the reference pictures ducky, they'll be really helpful. now.. well.. anyone have any clue on how to make those designs? o.o..

No problem, Blargh. I'm always glad to help. I know how they'd be made by clothing factories, but as for the everyday cosplayer....hmmm.....now that's a tricky one. You can always try carving the design on craft foam and painting it silver. Foam has been my friend through many cosplay adventures. Or you can try to cut it out of fabric and handsew it on. But, that's probably too time consuming. Your best bet would be to draw out the design on the fabric with chalk and then use fabric paint to paint it in. Hopefully, one of these ideas work.

ChibiBlargh
03-31-2003, 03:25 AM
well how to clothing factories do it? since my mom owns one i don't think it'd be too hard convincing her to make a couple designs for an important cause.

Something along the lines of embroidery, I think? I'm not really sure what it's called. I have a picture of my shirt that shows what I'm talking about. Look at the words to the sides of the patch. (Sorry about the quality, my webcam isn't the greatest)

ChibiBlargh
03-31-2003, 03:57 AM
hm.. i kind of understand what you're talking about... hm.. seems like a very difficult process

Michi
03-31-2003, 04:02 AM
You could also paint it.. unless you want a 3D look with foam.. :o

ducky_feet
03-31-2003, 02:58 PM
I'd go with the fabric paint. Putting a couple of layers of it on should give it a nice 3D-ish look to it, too.

You can also use silver fabric markers to trace-out the design... It worked really well on my SeeD uniform ^_^
I also found this nifty picture of the uniform layout that helped me a LOT ^^

Oooh, that's VERY NICE! Good stuff! Props to whoever created that. They deserve lots of credit for making it.

ChibiBlargh
03-31-2003, 08:12 PM
ooooooh that's for the picture, it's awesome. the person that made that really does deserve a lot of credit. anyway, wouldn't painting the designs on make the costume look sort of ghetto? i mean it is for a formal O.o..

ducky_feet
03-31-2003, 08:20 PM
Then it's back to the whole embroidery thing that I mentioned earlier. I'll try to think of some other ways to do this that will look professionally done, but so far that's the best one I can come up with. :o

well i found a picture of a cosplayer that did an excellent job with the shoulder designs.

they look 3d and smooth, i'm quite stumped on how the person got it like that o.o

03-31-2003, 09:48 PM
Ooooooooh, that's nice! ^___^ Wow, I'm curious how they got that, too! I wish someone had worn that to a formal when I was in high school. *sigh*

I heard that he made the designs out of puff paint ^_^
I think Will used foam sheet for his uniform design and it looks really good too!

I think you can get puff paint just about anywhere (Rag Shop, Michael's, etc...) Just make sure you put it evenly on the fabric ^_^
I myself used fabric marker for the design, and surprisingly, it turned out quite nicely ^_^

ChibiBlargh
03-31-2003, 11:36 PM
but with the fabric marker it doesn't have the cool 3d look =T *sigh* the puff paint idea seems really unpredictable.. and like can't it come off while you're wearing it? @.@

Try it on some test fabric and after it's completely dried, put it through some stressing and testing to see if it'll hold.

hmm good idea. XD

Erika here.

Yeah, I used that Scribbles stuff in iridescent silver. I sketched out the design in chalk, then laid a thick line of the stuff over. Before it dried, I took a brush to the edge to make it even and spread the lines out. Worked really well...altho' if you're not used to painting, you might have problems. And use an angled brush no bigger than a quarter-inch.
Glad everyone likes the uniform tho'. *grins* I worked hard on that thing, and Eric looks so gorgeous in it.

Erika here.

Oh, and no, it won't come off. You can even wash this stuff. I once covered a pair of boots with it because it's flexible and cheap. I love it.

hmm.. ok now that the design issue is over with.. any suggestions on how to make the two diamond shaped clips and the chain?

ducky_feet
04-02-2003, 01:57 PM
You can try scrounging around at an arts and craft store and take a look at what they have. If you're lucky you'll be able to find one that's suitable to use. Another option would be to use fimo or sculpey, but i'm not sure if it would be good enough since you're going to be wearing this to a formal.

04-03-2003, 12:42 AM
well,....maybe wood..wood works good................um im going to make mine out of wood.................im a wood person.......................the chain?.....well the first thing that hit my mind...is going to Home Depot...............they have a lot of different types of chains.............im sure they something very similar.......*thats where im going to go ^___^*

I love Wal-mart... I just had to say that. Anyway, I'm also trying to get good pics of the female seed uniform, if any of you amazing capture people can find them....

Michi
04-05-2003, 12:43 PM
Well there's a great view of it in Quistis's intro.. I just realized that there are NO female SeeDs in the ballroom sequence FMV.. They show Selphie before it in gameplay, but after that.. it's all SeeD guys and girls in dresses. o_O

Here's ZiggyB's pictures of the female one:

The female SeeD uniform does nothing for me.. but I have the Balamb uniform planned. :D For a certain character.. mwahaha.. Good luck everyone~

That's my little secret. LOL, j/k! I have these two programs that I use to take the screenshots. One's called FF8 FMV Player which lets me extract the movie clips from the game. Then I play them with a program called Bink Player. The rest is just pressing the "prt scr" button. ^___^
