Well, I finally did the uber-otaku thing and cosplayed a character who only shows up for 2 episodes (although they're important ones!)
Cotton kimono with 2-part obi (separate belt and bow)
Shamisen made from styrofoam and celluclay
Staff made with celluclay and balsa wood blades - I originally wanted it to be retractable the way it is in the show, but ran out of time to do it.
