Fay D. Flourite
Standard outfit with staff

The white shirt/jacket (bottom layer) and pants - the pants were bought from Goodwill (they are black pants, why make them?). For the shirt, I made my own pattern for it. The first attempt was very uncomfortable and fit me poorly. I later remade it with a real pattern and it was muuuuch better. For the first attempt, I used shiny blue ribbon for the trim. When I remade it, I made my own piping. It was sort of a huge improvement, lol.
The gloves, pants, and shoes were bought.
This was my first prop...ever. I am so proud of it! HUGE thank you to Utai Mitsumo for helping me understand how to go about making my staff!! She taught me many valuable things. :) With her help, I was able to understand the whole foamboard layering technique and managed to put this monster together. Similar to her method, I ended up carving the details that you see on the outside. It took SO much time, and I went through so many blades, but it was worth it. The gems were clear resin floral gems that I painted the backs of with glass paint. The head and foot pieces are made up of 5 layers of foamboard total, 3 of which are anchored into the PVC pipe. This staff became my baby, and I'm so sad that I had to sell it off (didn't think it would survive a cross-country move). I am happy though, that it has a new home, and is hopefully going to be getting more good use. :)
If you're curious about the process, you can find in-progress photos of the staff in my "In-Progress" gallery. Feel free to ask me any specific questions through PM, too. I'm happy to spread the wealth. :) Learning how to make the staff really opened my world to prop-making. I'm no pro at prop-making by any means, but I used this same method simple for many other props and pieces in later costumes.
Overall, I acquired a lot of new skills from making this costume, and perhaps I feel like I "grew up" a little in the sense of costume making, haha.
