Seto Kaiba

Purple coat

Kaibaís purple and black outfit from his first meeting with Ishizu at the museum

This was my first cosplay costume and came about mostly due to the fact that I already had a billowy purple duster that I had made in a sewing class. Seto Kaiba is my favorite character from Yu-Gi-Oh and I thought that the duster could pass for the purple coat he had worn in one episode even though it wasnít completely accurate. (I had originally just intended the coat to be part of my regular wardrobe rather than a cosplay piece. Also, note that the color in my photos is somewhat off. On every camera that Iíve tried so far, the coat comes out as being more bluish than it really is.)

So, I went about making or buying the other pieces I would need for the costume. I stitched the gauntlets from iridescent silver material with a layer of heavily interfaced muslin inside for stiffness. I made them large enough to easily slip on and the fabric from the coat sleeves underneath helps hold them in place.

The card locket, which I consider the best part of the costume, was made from a gold-plated business card case. I was able to find one with a design similar to the back of a Duel Monsters card so I painted the lid, added the proper picture inside, and attached a brown cord.

The black pants came out of my wardrobe although I did have to purchase the black turtleneck and belt. To complete the costume, I bought a brown wig, which was perfect and didnít need any styling, plus a pair of brown boots. (It took me a while to notice but the shoes worn with the purple coat were brown.)
