This was a costume I'd wanted to do for a LONG time. Ever since I saw him in TRY for the first time.
Finally, I was able to. Due to good grades, my dad paid for a member of Yume no Senshi (Haruka) to make me a wig for it. ^_^ She's going to remake it but that's beside the point. ^_^
The shirt... I got a chinese jacket pattern and my mom helped me modify it (and now I have a dress form so I can do a lot on my own!) The fabric is cotton and the colors are a sort of.. navy blue, white, and then we got white for the pants. Back on the shirt... the trim was done with red hem tape. ~_^ The sleeves are FULL LENGTH. The underside of them had white, and was even included in the pattern how to attach. From there you simply roll them up and you have the right look.
Quick note: A lot of people use satin on costumes. I do not unless I can tell it MUST be satin, like Yuna's wedding dress. Why? Well how would YOU like travelling around in that all the time? x.x You wouldn't. Besides, I prefer not to tortue myself with satin. It evil. ^^;;
Okay, pants. I made these twice actually, once out of some material I had laying around.. but it frayed and snagged. So then I made them out of white cotton. I didn't use a pattern, instead I used a trick my mom taught me and took the pattern from my white Shion pants. :) Then I sewed them together, hemmed em, and stuck in elastic. Right after, we put on white belt toops out of ribbon that I just spaced the name of. The belt was actual belt material gotten from the fabric store. We burned the edges. and sewed on snaps. ^_^ So, the pants stayed up with little difficulty but still looked right.
Next up, the shoes. We found Chinese shoes at a local store, and simply used more red hem tape to trim it and get the top to be pointy like it is.
Finally.. the wraps. I had slate grey-blue socks which helped a lot, and then for the wraps themselves.. cotton-spandex. THE BIGGEST PAIN IN THE ASS EVER! But it had the right stretchyness to work... it curled like all hell though. I spent two days sewing just those! Then wrapping them on was a complete story unto itself. x.x You have to figure out how to get it to do what his does, and then do it right! It was hard and time consuming, at least half an hour. The arm wrap was the easiest to wrap... I made someone else do it after showing them how. :x ::laugh.::
And now.. the scars. I got from another local costume shop some liquid latex. I then applied a couple layers in the right shapes (and you can't tell but I did the ones on his sides/stomache as well.) After that I coated them heavily with the tan base from Shion. ^_^
(Edited)Horn: Carved styrofoam covered with electrical tape, glued onto the wig with hot glue. I used aquanet on the wig.
(Edited)Eye make-up: Cat-eye style
So, after all that... you have a Valgaav. A short Val, but still a Val. :p I am a perfectionist, if you spot anything wrong with the costumes themselves PLEASE let me know.!!
