Lady Una was actually supposed to be my easy, cheap costume, and wound up costing 100 dollars and over a week of construction.
Picking out the fabric was a nightmare in itself, lasting hours because I'm fickle and can't match colors. The patterns were already at home, from an earlier Simplicity sale. I used a couple of different patterns, both gypsy and pirate based. There was really no pattern altering for this costume, so... I guess it was easy in that sense.
The bottom skirt was straight and gathered, so very little effort except for the hemming. I despise hemming with a passion. The overskirt wasn't much harder, and machine-hemmed. The toughest part was aligning the hooks and eyes that clipped it up in the design that it did. The undershirt was probably the second most complicated part, if only for the multiple pieces of elastic and lace on the sleeve hems. The vest was easily the hardest part, both pressing down the suede so the lining wasn't visible and adding those eyelets. Oh man, the eyelets. It was my first time using them, and I think they came out great (I know I was pleasantly surprised), but it was still difficult to get the technique down without hurting myself.
The chain I initially had is not seen in any of the photos currently up. It was much longer and actually trailed so I could put it behind objects to appear chained. It clipped around my wrist, my ankle, and the trailing length clipping to the ankle clip so that I might take it off easily. The costume is littered with sashes, extra fabric, earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, feathers, bells, and other doo-dads. I had about half my stuff for the current photoshoot shown in the costume's gallery.
The wig was ordered during the massive CosWorx sale. There was no styling, just tying in some fabric. The ears were actually furred as they should have been, but the fur kept clumping or falling off. This was also my first attempt at girly makeup. I don't think I'll ever understand it, but I think the photographed results were much better than my first few.
And I wish there was more to say on this costume, but there really isn't.
