This costume turned out to be a last minute idea, with original plans to skip out on a Halloween party that I attend annually. Armed with an idea that I had since the release of the game, a sewing needle, and a brokenhearted past with the gorgeous game Okami, I poured my creativity into this quick 5 day project. There were very few Okami cosplays circling the net, so inspiration was scarce (although the few that I found were very helpful)
I started the sun disk/mirror at first, with a styrofoam circle. I molded the circular shapes with no more then a pen and my finger, and then painted it hunter green. I attached felt cut into a flame shape to itís back, and then wrapped some shiny fire colored fabric leis around the felt design. Finally, I attached white straps to the underside of the mirror.
I used some fake white fur for a design going down the center of my shirt, a plush tail, and some large white furry ears (attached to a "kitty" headband). The red swirls on the shirt were cut out from red fleece and then sewn onto the sides and front of the shirt.
I used craft foam to create the wings, which were sewn to the shoulders of the shirt. I used some white yarn and black marker to design the foam. I also used some foam and fake fur to create two bracelets with the smaller ankle fur design on them. Two of these foam furs designs were also attached to my shoes as well.
Finally, the plush tail was attached to a plain white skirt, and with white fishnets, furry legwarmers, and some creative face paint, the costume was complete.
I just wish more people would have recognized me. My best friend (who was out as Jill Valentine) got much more recognition. Either way, it was a great experience to create, wear, take pictures, and dance in. I hope to attend some conventions wearing the costume again, seeing as how it survived a night out.
