Description

Ahhhhhhh love the oufit. DAMN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE.

Metal exorcist brooch and black thigh high boots bought on ebay, special D. Gray-man silver buttons bought from Japan, all the rest handmade :D With lots of pinpricks and blood and sweat and cursing. :3

For the boots, I couldn't find flat square-heeled ones that go thigh high like Rinali's dark boots, so I had to settle for a pair of stiletto ones. They are a HUGE PAIN to walk in (they make you handicapped by the end of the day) but wearing the high heel does make your proportions look better. The boots were a little loose/falling down so I had to turn it inside out and sew in a long dart to make it fit better.

I used black hair extensions to make my pigtails longer, had to dye my hair blacker to match the extensions but overall they worked pretty well. I bought bulk hair extensions and made the wefts myself, then sewed them on to wig clips to attach to my pigtails. I also had to re-cut my bangs specifically for this cosplay, since Rinali's bangs are not straight cut like Kanda's but more uneven and "pointed" in the center.

I based my costume off the manga version instead of the anime, because I think the manga version looks better....I don't like how the exorcist pin in the anime looks (and I hate the green-tinted hair).

I bought the buttons from a site off a Japanese cosplay site. Combined with overseas shipping they were pretty expensive...but they were the only ones I found that were accurate in terms of size and number of petals, so I sacrificed my wallet for it, also because at the time I have not been cosplaying for very long, so I neither had the knowledge nor tools/materials to make it myself. This lack of costuming experience also backfired in the sense that I didn't know about bias tape at the time....so for every single black and white stripe on the costume I pretty much made from scratch LOL D:

There are lots of Rinali cosplayers so I was careful to be super OCD on the details and proportions, because it is a difficult costume and it is easy to make small mistakes here and there or skimp out on certain details, for instance, the white underskirt is NOT supposed to show on the bottom--they are more like individual sections on the sides. I also didn't like how using thigh high socks and shoes to "fake" the thigh-high boots looked like in person and on photos, so I made sure to get actual thigh-high ones. The skirt is SUPPOSED to be "Ass-short" as my friend termed it, when I was making it I kept asking her "Is this short enough?" and she kept saying "No" XD Another reason is that anime figures tend to have perfect proportions, and I do not have naturally long legs like Rinali does, so the next best thing is to shorten the skirt to give the illusion of longer legs. Originally I was tempted to just buy this costume, but eveywhere I looked there was missing/wrong details such as the thick white stripe going down on the middle instead of the right side and missing the thick black stitches that run vertically down the stripe, the "belt loops" on the collar stripe being omitted, the horizontal black stitching on the high-necked collar missing, the shoulder stripes being round-ended instead of sqaure-ended, or the stripe on the waist where the buttons are missing white borders around the buttons. All these led to my decision to make the costume myself so I could add in these details and keep it accurate. It was the first time I tackled making a costume this complicated and it was definitely a learning experience.

Finally, to complete the outfit 100%, I bought purple contacts and black stud earrings (if you look very closely her character wears them all the time) and I love them *w*

I used some special makeup techniques for this character, which is detailed further in some of the photos below. (aka too lazy to copy & paste here)
