Yellow Kimono (Classic)

Rurouni Kenshin

Last Updated: 08-13-2006

This cosplay is my first and only one ^_^. It is a partner, or couple cosplay, to my boyfriend, Tenshi Musouka's Kenshin Himura cosplay that he did for me because Kenshin is my all-time favourite character! ^__^.

The cosplay was a joint effort by the both of us ^_^. The main body and sewing for the kimono was done by Tenshi, off of a kimono pattern found online. The pattern was painted with fabric paints, and took about 1-2 days. For Anime Expo 2004, the bottom half had to be remade and so the kimono was split into two pieces. The flowers on the kimono were then repainted in more life-like detail by myself :).

The obi was made by myself mainly with fabric, hot glue, paperboard and cotton stuffing. It took much measuring and planning, and I consider it to be the most tedious aspect of the cosplay -_-;;

The hair extension (back) was bought off Ebay, for around $40. The front hair extensions were made from the main one. For Anime Expo 2004, bangs were added along with the two main bangs, from pieces from the main hair extension and hot glue o_O;; ^_^;; We didn't have time to run out and buy real ones, XD.

The geta sandals were ordered from Ebay, along with the tabi socks for around $40-50. The pretty pink parisol was found in Chinatown, Toronto, for a not-so-shabby 10 dollars ^_~.

Some miscellaneous accesories used were natural looking stick-on nails (because I can't do my nails worth anything -_-;; ), bright blue contacts, lighter tone foundation and Kenshin plushie (a gift to me by Tenshi) ^^.

I am very happy with how this cosplay turned out, especially for my first try ^_^. It's improved greatly since its debut in Anime North 2004, and I do hope to wear it again sometime :).
