Okay, so there are a plethora of Pikachu girls out there. I've even seen a couple Jigglypuff girls, and even a Meowth girl grace the cosplay scene... but Togepi girls are few and far between. Yes, I'm making this a lot more dramatic than it really is.
My point is... I love Togepi. And I like cute costumes. So... why not mix the two? And so it starts.
This costume was pretty simple, and I liked it that way ^_^. I started out using a simple strapless dress pattern, which worked very well for the bodice, but not-so-well for the skirt. I ended up making my own Circle-skirt style pattern and using that instead for added *flounciness*. I then cut the top of the dress in the shape of togepi's eggshell... pretty basic, but cute ^_^.
I made the dress out of fleece so I would have a stuffed-animal type feel, just like the stuffed Togepi I carried as a prop. The fleece was pretty easy to work with, especially since I didn't have to hem it ^^;. The arm and leg warmers are flannel, which is also fuzzy but not as bad as the fleece. The togepi triangles I cut out of red and blue felt and sewed on by hand.
My fave parts of this outfit are the parts I thot of after the fact ^_^. While trying to find a pair of shoes that would work sufficiently, I found a pair of slippers in my closet that appeared to have a Togepi like *toe*. I accentuated the tow by stitching a piece of yarn into the seam of the slipper, and it turned out TOO cute ^_^. I also came up with the idea for pokeball hairbands just a couple days before the con, so I bought plain white ones and colored them with sharpees ^^;;.
This costume was more well recieved than I could have imagined... I didn't think anyone would actually like it, but I still thot it was too cute too pass up. It was fun walking thru the halls hearing "OMG!! TOGEPI!! KAWAII!! XD!!" I'll prolly do it again someday, hopefully with poke-friends ^_^
