Description

From the moment I saw the concept art for this set I knew I wanted to have it...if not in game, then IRL! I'm pretty sure I first saw pictures around July of 2007, and from conception to reality was about 8 months (not including the helm and wings which I am STILL working on ^_^). It was ridiculous to find everything needed for this costume so far, but I think that ultimately it will be awesome in the end.

I know I really need to work on the make-up part of it...I planned on having a helm by the time I finally wore it, so I never really did my make-up for this.

Here's a brief description of how it was made since so many people have asked and I'm really bad at the whole tutorial business (and most of the time it's kinda hard to have an in depth talk about it while walking around the convention. ^_^)

The basic shape is made in leather, then the foam (more specifically, Plastazote foam, which I often described as a latex-like foam since I can't pronounce it :P ) is cut from sheets of various thickness and glued on. The glue is called Evostik. It's a solvent based contact adhesive so if you can't find that kind specifically, just make sure that it won't react adversely to polyethylene foam. The foam can then be smoothed and shaped with a small sanding drum on a Dremel drill, and finally liquid latex is painted over the whole thing. The plain latex can be coloured by mixing acrylic paints into it. A lot of the materials were based in the UK so I don't know if you'll be able to find these in the US, but here goes anyway - The paint is a flexible polyurethene paint called "Flexithane". The final clear coat is the oddest thing of all - It's actually the primer for a rubber roofing compound. It's called "Isoflex Special Primer". I hope this helps all of you looking to make this kind of armor. ^_^
