Description
Guess what? I got a fever!
Components:
Wig: licensed "Foxxy Cleopatra" wig from "Austin Powers." It's a bit more poofy then Will Ferrell's on-screen wig, but it worked well and I found it on clearance for about $5.
Shirt: weird corduroy shirt from a thrift shop. I customized it by adding a keyring onto the zipper, and hemming up the waist so it'd give me that patented Will Ferrell comedy-hairy-gut effect whenever I raised my arms.
Jeans: standard 1970s-looking jeans from a thrift store. Purposely cinched too tight at the waist for that stylish "muffin-top" effect.
Shades: $5 rack at the back of a dusty stationery store.
Drumstick and cowbell: genuine articles from a music store.
Beard: I grew out my real beard, and then bleached it out from its normal dark brown with cream bleach from the cosmetics aisle of the drugstore.
This costume was great for the big parade, as all the marching bands dug when I'd show up and enthusiastically accompany them with my cowbell for a bit. The arm-raising gut-flashing thing was also a real crowd pleaser. XD
That parade really did need more cowbell.
Recently, by request of the bride, I broke out the wig, shades, and cowbell during the wedding reception of my friends Grey Frequency and Renderman. The DJ and I timed it out perfectly - I put on the gear behind his booth, he announced "this wedding needs a little more cowbell," he started up "Don't Fear the Reaper," and I came out on cue and played cowbell along with the song while I danced with the couple and the guests. I had my reservations, but everyone seemed to love it.
