Tifa Lockhart
Original Game (Nomura Tetsuya design)
Final Fantasy VII
Last Updated: 08-29-2010
Tifa is my favorite character from the entire Final Fantasy series, and I think we look somewhat alike, so I decided to attempt her. I was originally going to debut her at Nan Desu Kan 2007, but ended up not going.
The costume itself is mostly insanely simple: white sports bra, black miniskirt, with a belt held up by standard suspenders and black socks/red boots. I think the hardest part about Tifa's original game costume is the hands and arms, since there are layers of wrappings under the actual gloves, as well as an elbow armor piece. I made the elbow and shoe armor out of wonderflex and putty, layered with Friendly Plastic and sanded gesso. The materia is 18mm marble beads embedded into the gloves via string so I can switch them out if I want. I also modified her shoes with an extra top piece to make them a little higher.
I wore this first for Anime Boston 2008, where I was only 80% done (no armor or wig). Otakon 2008 was the first time I wore this costume with it 100% done. For Otakon 2009, my husband joined me as game Cloud Strife.
As of Otakon 2010, Tifa is retired; I'm remaking most of the costume at the moment. Tifa 2.0 will appear at Nan Desu Kan 2010 (hopefully XD)
