Description
I bought some green material for a Haku [Naruto] cosplay ages ago which was to be used for my first cosplay only to find that it was the wrong shade of green! So I've had a metre of green material lying about for about a year now. I decided that since it was expensive [£6p/m!] I should use it, so I went through quite a few possible cosplays that I could use the fabric for but most of them were either boring or involved extra fabric! I was actually going to make a Mad Hatter cosplay... But my hat failed miserably so I didn't use the fabric, then I found in my pictures a Great Saiyaman picture! 8D Thus my Great Saiyaman adventure began!
Materials used:
Green cotton [tunic]
Red polycotton [cape]
White polycotton [headband, bootcovers and gloves]
Felt [boot covers]
Craft foam [belt buckle]
Fimo [Cape buttons]
The tunic was made with guesswork, it's not 100% accurate because I did it wrong but it's hopefully unnoticable! XD; I just accidently made it the same way as I would with a jacket and so it is sewn together at the middle not at the side like the reference. It was basically a large rectangular type shape xD
The belt was my dad's which he gave to me [he gave me 2 cause they were broken haha xD] and I basically cut out a circle from craft foam and used felt tips to draw the kanji for turtle on, this was then hot glued on.
The cape was just a metre of fabric which was then cut into shape, hemmed and tacked onto my tunic. The fimo buttons were later glued on.
The boot covers were actually really fun to make! It was slightly tricky due to the fabric being polycotton [i.e. NOT stretchy in the slightest] so I had to do a lot of adjusting every now and then to make it fit properly. Once I got the shape fitted nicely I glued it on along with the felt and then used felt tips to draw on the black lines.
The headband... was actually just a scrap piece of polycotton xD. I was too cheap to go out and buy some... I was also too lazy to hem it as polycotton doesn't really fray much anyways xD. On the day I had lost the white material I used previously which was longer, so the headband kept on popping out xD Getting all my hair to fit inside the headband neatly was such a pain though! In the end I just left it and just tied it up in a ponytail and wrapped it into the flap of the turtleneck fufufu, wasn't noticeable at all actually!
Black turtleneck and trousers I already had. Gloves were last minute and were based on medical gloves with white fabric sewn together and attached [I actually made them on the car journey to the expo! Talk about last minute xD;], the watch is my dad's old old one, it's not 100% accurate but it's way more accurate than the watches I personally own! XD [He has a -really- accurate watch but there's no way he'd lend it to me xD]. The sunglasses are my own which I bought many years ago, from poundland!
That's all there is to talk about the costume... This is probably one of my favourite costume haha! It's so much fun to wear, I can be as geeky/dorky/annoying as I want! 8D However it does tend to get a tad hot... But you get used to it ^_^
