SO. MUCH. DETAIL.
This is really my first "Big Time" costume. I spent over 200 hours on this thing and I tried to represent every small detail in the artwork as possible. <3
I've never attempted armor before, so please excuse my mess hahahhaha XD <3
I'm really in love with my little cod-piece bit though, because I made it on a ring so it actually swings back and worth. OH DEAR ITS AWESOME XD (IE...a distraction! XD <3) All the details on the back and on the tails of the outfit are sewn in gold thread just like in the game, you can't ever tell in pictures so I thought I'd mention it...since....well, its a lot of extra details XD
The scales...were interesting. I tried several different ways of making them before I came to what you see now. The first attempt I wanted to see what fabric scales would look like...which they were okay but it just didn't have enough 3Dness, so I made a row of scales from craft foam (which is what most of the armor is made out of). That was waaaaay too thick (even if I used the ultra thing ones) and it didn't reflect the sliver edges of the scales like I wanted.
So the final scales are actually a type of textured artists' paper that is made mostly for watercolours. It soaked up the base paint perfectly leaving the acrylic sealant and sliver shiny and oh so perfect. YAY FOR TRIAL AND ERROR XDDD <33333
OH AND THE BOOTS. I'm only 5'5" in reality and Vayne is like....LE TALL, I made fabric boot covers and I wear 6" platform boots under them to get his giga-tall effect when I'm cosplaying him. It works really well...however, it hurts about about four hours (or less) XD BUT I LOVE BEING TALL! WOOO! Hahahha <3
