I've loved the Harvest Moon series since I first played Harvest Moon 64 when I was a kid and it first came out. My Nana was the one who bought it for me. She wanted us to have something other than "that violent sword game" aka Ocarina of time. :P My parents were quite miffed when they saw that the point of the New Year's festival was to drink all the other characters under the table though. :) Elli was always my favorite girl in HM 64, and the ones that followed.
Since I made it, this has become one of my favorite costumes. I was extremely proud of the way it turned out, as this is the first costume I sewed entirely by myself from scratch. Prior to this I had bought pieces or my mother had sewn significant portions. I took care to finish all the edges possible with a serger, and to take my time and start it in advance so I wouldn't have to rush at the last minute. I really felt like I grew as a seamstress and cosplayer when I completed it, so it's very dear to me.
The skirt is made of a wonderful linen I found on clearance at Hancock's. The pattern I used came from Butterick's 4954, its a very nice full skirt. The hem doesn't go quite to the floor, so it doesn't inhibit walking or get in the way. The top is made of Kona cotton, and was based of a now retired Butterick fitted blouse pattern. The apron is also Kona cotton, and was based of a McCall's apron pattern. I'm not quite sure which one exactly, this was made a while ago. ^^;;
The wig is a Bob purchased from Cosworx in 12. All I did to it was part it to the side like Elli's hair. I made the cake by cutting a block of styrofoam into a wedge, wrapped Model Magic around it, stuck a strawberry on top and painted it. The Blue Feather and flowers that resemble the ones from the game all came from Michaels.
I ended up getting brown contacts about a year ago to go with this costume. Elli's big brown eyes are always emphasized in the artwork and game, and since I have about three other characters I cosplay that have brown eyes I figured why not. :)
Updates 2013 -
I realized when I wore this costume to A-Kon 2012 that it needed some repairs and improvements. I remade the top using the same pattern, but tweaked it slightly. I added a second petticoat for maximum poof, and refit a few things.
I made one of the cookie bags like you can purchase from the bakery, and a working music box.
