Eternal Sailor Venus

Sailor Moon

I am SOOOO in love with Minako-chan *^_^*. And now that I know how to sew by myself and consider myself officially obsessed with cosplay, I wanted to give her another fair shot. My last Sailor Venus costume was made mostly by my mom @_@;;. Now that I'm more experienced in the field of cosplay, I wanted to give Minako the respect she truly deserves by devoting my own time and efforts to her portrayal ^^.

I wanted to do Sailor Venus' eternal form for several reasons. For one, Sailor Venus is one of the more rare senshi to be cosplayed, ESPECIALLY her eternal form. Also, the fuku is SOOOO beautiful I can't even stand it. And lastly, Minako-chan is my favorite anime character of all time, and I think she deserves no less than her most powerful form ^_^.

This whole costume is made of satin, satin, and more satin ^^;. I know a lot of people think shiny sailor senshi are overrated, but I think Eternal Senshi DESERVE to be shiny, lol! I used white stretch satin for the leotard base and the whatever other satin I could find in the proper colors for the other stuff ^^;.

I used a Simplicity figure skating pattern, and altered it a little so the skirt would have 2 layers and the same length all around (rather than shorter on the sides). The ice skating pattern included the puffy sleeves that eternal fuku's have, but I couldn't get them puffy enuf using that pattern >_<. I had to resort to buying a pattern for a little girl's princess-type dress in order to figure out how to make the sleeves exactly how I wanted them, tee ^^;.

I was definitely going for a manga-style Venus, so I wanted flatter, pointer looking bows on the fuku so it would appear more manga-like. I used double thick interfacing inside the bows in order to achieve the effect, and I think it turned out quite nicely. ^_^ The hardest part of the costume, for whatever reason, was the st00pid puffy things on the tops of the gloves and the bottoms of the sleeves... I used batting inside those, and they turned out okay... even tho they still kinda look like backpack straps >_<. Thanks to Maryssa-sama for the advice! *bows*

What else... my boots! I ordered them online, and I think they are SOO perfect ^_^. The Eternal boots always looked so painful, with their horrible stiletto heel and pointy toes, and my boots were just that... XD! Since the boots are made out of stretch leather (at least that's what it said on the site o_O) they sucked to my legs really tight just like the reference images ^_^. Also because they were so tight I was able to simply cut them in to the "V" shape that most eternal sailor cosplayers overlook ^_^.

AND MY WIG!!! *pants* I <3 my wig! It's the first wig I ever styled, so I'm quite proud of it, tee ^^. I followed Katie Bair-sama's instructions religiously, and I think it turned out quite well ^_^. I used an Enchantment wig from in the "Power" color. I straightened it (it was a bit frizzy and kinked from the shipping process) cut and styled the bangs, pulled back the hair on the sides and added extensions along the sides in order to cover up my nasty ROOTS *glances at Lith-san and mumbles something about Kunta Kinte*. Anyways, I'm really happy with the way it came out, especially for a first try.

Well, I think I've talked enough. I doubt anyone's still reading this ^^;. I'll wrap it up: I'm really happy with the way this costume turned out, and I think it was really well recieved at Animagic ^_^. I was especially happy and proud to be able to pose along side legends like Maryssa and Aznaphrodite for Venus group shots! GO YELLOW! XD
