King of Fighters
Last Updated: 08-03-2008
Kula's costume was based off on various artworks from the King of Fighters series, mainly from '02.
Initially, I only had pleather in mind to tailor the costume however, the colors available for pleather are quite limited in Singapore and the closest they have is maroon which I find it a little far off from the actual. :< Imo, Kula's costume is mainly purple colour with a tinge of pinkish > red, also depending on which artwork. :)
I manage to find a fabric of rather similar colour from Arab street, according to the store owner, it's a PVC mixture. My only hesitant was that there were black textures on the fabric itself which thankfully, didn't appear too obvious in the photos ._. This fabric isn't as thick and cool as pleather would have been but nevertheless, it was easily fitting.
Props I made :D
Gloves - rubber kitchen gloves, satin black gloves, gold acrylic paint, lots of double-sided tape.
I was really surprised at how the gloves turn out in the photos cause the actual thing I made looks rather shabby at close-up when you see the painting and cutting flaws >_< The golden parts were made of rubber kitchen gloves which I cut and over flip them (the inner part of the the rubber is shiny and smooth). When coated with gold acrylic paint, it shimmers a little like that of metal.
Belt & Buckle - normal plain belt (modified), clay, varnish, velcro
I painted a plain white belt golden with acrylic paint and the problem was the buckle which I was not able to find a pyramid shape so in the end, I moulded the pyramid shape with clay. It was a shabby idea but it turned out as a good last solution. :D Buckle was attached to belt with super glue and I use velcro to attach them fittingly to my waist.
Shoes - platform shoes (modified), acrylic paint
I was lucky Aunty Mee Lee got this pair of platform shoes for me during our Japan trip. It was from a second hand store and selling really dirt cheap ._. Originally in white and pink, I painted it dark purple and golden with acrylic paint. The two buttons on each shoe fell out before the event and I decided to leave them out.
Pussy Cat Emblem - colour papers, double-sided tape
The design was sketched on colour papers then cut out and pasted with double-sided which wasn't a good idea as my wig got stuck in between they started falling apart :/
Wig was bought from Cyperous and trimmed by Ryuju. Thank you <3 You did really great :>
