*OK Revised Description*
There was a LOT of in-depth research on this character, and here is the skinny on what Schrödinger REALLY is:
Schrödinger's character is based on the theory of a paradox involving a cat by the quantum physicist Dr. Schrödinger (hence his name). He is a Warrant Officer in the Hitler Jugend(youth). According to Wiki and other sources, a Warrant Officer is a different class of soldier which are mostly senior NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers.) Schrödinger is, therefore, based on his shoulder boards and belt buckle, actually a Warrant Officer with the true NCO rank of Major. His Shoulder boards have NCO rank tresse around the edges (the white/silver border) and four small silver rank pips on each to upgrade the boards to the rank of Sturmbannführer. This puts Schrödinger on the same level as the Major, of course. (Speculated deeper relationship between the Major and Schrödinger?!?) He also wears an SS belt buckle. All this while still being in the Hitler Jugend would mean that he was dubbed an honorary SS member, then promoted to major. It is hard to determine the actual colors for the manga version of Schrödinger, but in the Ultimate OVA version the colors confirm that Schrödinger is in fact the Hitler Jugend Motorized (or mobile) division. This fits his character very well since he can be in more than one place at a time. His armband is actually somewhat of a cross between an SS officer and Hitler Jugend armband.
Here's what me and my buddy were able to do with this info and research:
--The shirt, shorts, and boots were purchased from Sears (If you check out their garment racks all around the floors of their stores, they look like Swastikas from above. Go figure, LOL)
--The shirt was altered then dyed with a combo golden yellow/tan "RIT" brand powder dye mixture to get the correct color. The buttons were replaced with reproduction WWII German Officer's buttons of correct sizes (the shoulder board buttons are smaller) complete with maker's marks.
--Two half-inch-wide belts were purchased from Target to make the cross-belt, wrapped around the the additional D-rings and latches, then hand-sewn over each loop. Extra belt material was used to make the loops to which it attaches on the main belt.
--The tie cross-stripes were machine-embroidered onto a pre-measured location, then re-knotted and the reproduction "honorary SS Member" tie pin added.
--The shoulder boards are reproduction NCO SS officer's boards with separately purchased and added metal rank pips to make Schrödinger's true rank.
--the eagle on Schrödinger's right sleeve is a reproduction SS member's embroidered sleeve eagle.
--The belt and buckle are reproduction SS member's leather belt and metal buckle with belt hooks for attachment.
--The armband is a reproduction printed cotton Hitler Jugend armband.
--The socks were purchased from Hot Topic, and the top two stripes were cut off each of them.
--The pin on the left breast pocket is a reproduction Gold Hitler Jugend Member's badge (not to be mistaken for the party badge which is much smaller), and has proper maker's marks on the back.
--The ears are hand-sewn from fleece and glued to a black hairband. (Schrödinger has "sad" cat ears)
--The gloves were purchased from a tuxedo store. (when we asked for them, the woman there actually asked us if they were for a cosplay for the upcoming convention.) Awesome! ^^
--No, that's my hair, not a wig. Many people thought it was a wig at conventions, so I put this here to prevent any future confusion.
***all reproduction items including the buttons were purchased through the Reddick Militaria catalog, we hope that this source will help many Schrödinger and other anime Nazi cosplayers in their quest for the correct stuff to put on their costumes to make it look the best it possibly can, since much of the stuff on these uniforms is waaay too complex to make by hand.
Note: I know it seems not too cool to be purchasing more than half the parts of the costume and then saying I made it, but these parts were each purchased and added separately because they are pretty hard to get correct when done by hand, and also look extremely awesome when authentic.
