Xing Cai

Dynasty Warriors 5

Last Updated: 09-01-2008

I made this the day before the con, because that's when I found out my commission was cancelled. I had spent all my time on the commission, and none on my own costumes, so I had to rush this costume if I wanted to wear something new to Fan Expo

hence Xing Cai was born.

The skirt is custom dyed with a gradient using a silk/rayon brocade. The sleeves are also dyed with a paler green gradient.

Then a hell of a lot of gold trim was used for detailings, as well as a 3D paint called Pebeo Touch I picked up from work.

I had no zippers at 2 am in the morning when working on this, so I had to make do with velcro. Figuring out how to create this outfit and how it would be worn was a bit tricky. Thank god I had a dressform. It definitely sped up the process! Brocade was a bit tricky for me to tailor, because it was so thick, and puffed up when I sewed darts in. It also liked to I avoided cutting away excesss fabric unless I had to.

The hair is a wig, and not my own hair :P although short hair does look good on me *contemplates next haircut* The hairpiece was a great find from ebay, and is a Tibetan hair comb inlayed with green stones.

No boot covers because I fail! I worked up until the last hour when I had to run to go to the con.

The weapon is was made by my bf, so I can't take credit for it.
