Kiki's Delivery Service

One of the longest-lasting characters in my cosplay closet. I tend to pull her out once or twice a year, and even though Iíve considered retiring her multiple times, I donít know that I ever will. Sheís great for public events that call for a more recognizable character, sheís comfortable, and the costume itself has held up pretty well considering its age.
The dress is made from rayon gabardine, one of my favorite fabrics for matte-color, drapey costumes, since itís lightweight and doesnít wrinkle too easily. Kikiís dress is officially ďsupposedĒ to be black, I believe, but of course it tends to look kind of purple, so I went for an eggplant/aubergine. Iíve made two of them, but I usually opt for my first version, since I think it looks better. My original hair ribbon was cotton sateen, later upgraded to silk dupioni with stiff interfacing in the bow to keep it puffy and lightweight. There are bloomers that go with the costume, but of course they arenít usually visible. Iíve also got 2 brooms, one I made myself out of bamboo, jute twine, and the twigs from a couple of costume brooms, and a push broom like the one she has at the end of the movie, and of course my Jiji plushie, who helps tie the costume together.
