Yes I admit, I'm a Hao fangirl xD; I was previously going to do this cosplay for Oct 06 OR May 07, but being a n00b at cosplaying at the time [still am haha xD] I had no idea what to do and my cape failed [only used one metre of white!! Wasn't full enough...] ='D Now that I have a little more experience with sewing I'm going to attempt Hao again.
The cloak at first was 3m of fabric until I didn't think it was full enough so I made it 4m. You can imagine it being a pain to hem! It was basically 4 panels sewn together, quite simple. Getting it to sit on my shoulders nicely was rather hard but wasn't 'Oh my gosh raaaaah! *angst*' difficult.
For the trousers I used my own green combats which I bought years ago and thought it was suitable for a Hao cosplay and rolled it up to give the chaps the poof I needed.
The chaps were weird. Fitted at the top and extremely poofy at the bottom! I had only realized this AFTER I made the chaps extremely poofy, so lots of taking in was required! I basically made them by making a pair of normal trousers [I had to ,ake them a lot recently so it was easy!] and cutting the hole to make the, into chaps. What annoys me the most is that they're not perfectly symmetrical! Grrrr, that's probably just my OCD problem though ROFL! XD
The gloves, RAAAH!! Hardest part of the costume. It took me 3 attempts to get them fitted, I COULD have just given in and dyed an old pair of gloves brown but I wanted it to match the trouser material and so I just stuck with the non-stretchy material. God it was hard! First I mapped out the shape of my hand with fabric crayon, folded the fabric in half and cut out the shape. Then I added extra material for the inside of my hand. Yes it's very simple now that I actually know how to do it, but when I started I had no clue whatsoever so this was all trial and error!! Even though I say it's easy to make it's VERY tedious and takes a long time, for me anyway. The glove sticks up with heavyweight interfacing, it's rubbish and won't actually stick to the fabric but hey it works because I sewed it together anyway! XD [That's what I get for buying cheap iron-on interfacing!]
Details on the glove are made from craft foam and acrylic, and I lost one right before the masquerade LOL!!
I didn't have time to finish the costume, but it looks like the manga version anyway so erm. Lets just say this is the manga version LOL!!
One day, perhaps Amecon 2010 or something I will rewear this with the additional Spirit of Fire I was planning on making [got the fabric and chicken wire just ran out of time!!] and possibly the Spirit of Fire sword [need better references damnit!]. I hope to actually finish the braces too, started them but didn't have time to finish them, boo! Oh and the lego, can't forget the lego!!! I was gutted when I found that I didn't have time to do the lego. That's punishment for leaving it til 2-3 days before the expo! DX [And also for not finishing Hao when I started him 2 years ago LOL!]
I shall put this on complete for now as I won't finish him for a long time now XD
