My first anime convention (ever!) was AN 07, and I really wanted to cosplay at my first con, but didn't have any costumes, so I asked people on O'thon's forums if they had any old/spare costumes, and Trixyloupwolf responded that she had a whole "shack" of costumes (she owns a home costume rental "business").
I went to her house, which was in Blainville, north of Montreal. Arrived there, we found pieces for a generic Catboy. Being too generic, we found some pieces to make me into a pirate of some kind... 2 hours later, I ended up looking like a half-cat, half-Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean. XD
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was being released on the same Friday as the Friday of Anime North, so I wasn't really out of place. ^_^; I originally had a wig to make me resemble like Jack, but I removed it later since it made me look silly... (A bit too silly!) On Saturday, Trixyloupwolf added makeup to my face (as seen on my user icon) and passed me a bandana and a plastic sword. I didn't wear this costume on Sunday.
What I liked about this Pirate Jack Catboy was its apparent completeness despite its randomness, and its ability to blend into the crowd. What I didn't like about it were the boots, which chafed my skin till it almost bled (my socks were too short to cover the friction area) and were too big (even with Kleenex at the toes they were still too big), no pockets (I had to carry my cash in my cellphone pouch and my ID cars in my socks), and the unremovable stains which were present on the shirts (I had 3) when she passed them to me (they were wine drops).
Overall, it was a pain (literally) to walk around with it, and I was taken in photo about 10 times in total, all of which I've never found online (on Photobucket, Flickr, deviantART, etc).
I returned the whole costume to Trixyloupwolf when we returned to Montreal. Some of the pieces were reused for Anime North 2008.
- No awards won. I didn't expect it to win any.
