This is one of Count D’s outfits from the chapter with Ten-Chan in volume 8 of the manga. One of my main motivations for making this costume was my thought that the coat would look really elegant in the creamy gold brocade; it was material I had left over from an evening gown I made several years ago and one of my favorite fabrics ever. ^_^ Plus, I’d never made a tailcoat before. I’d still like to make a nine-tailed fox plushie to go with this outfit since it’s from Ten-Chan’s chapter but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Coat: I started with the Chinese top pattern that most of my D costumes are based on and the pattern alterations for the coat turned out to be relatively simple. The artwork was inconsistent about the length and shape of the tails so I made them long and rectangular like they appeared in one reference. The coat is fully lined in taffeta and closes with hook and eye tape. (The buttons are only ornamental.) I handstitched all of the olive trim onto the coat; it was a total of 8-9 yards. I made green tassels and cording from embroidery floss and used them to embellish the back of the coat, along with a couple of buttons. (There was no back reference for this particular outfit but D had a couple of tailed coats in the sequel embellished in a similar manner.)

Skirt: The skirt had a leafy pattern in the reference so I selected a green, leaf-patterned Chinese brocade. It’s just a simple skirt gathered into a wide waistband. I used French seams and bias binding on the inside to keep the fabric from fraying.

Wig: Already had it from my previous Count D costumes.

Contacts: Also already had the mismatched purple and yellow contacts from my earlier D costumes.

Shoes: Just an old pair that I had which went well with my color scheme
