Agatha Heterodyne

Sturmhalten outfit

Girl Genius

Last Updated: 11-01-2008

I chose to make this outfit because I'm a big fan of double-breasted jackets.

-- The wig is Alicia XL in golden auburn from cosworx.
-- The coat is basically my own pattern, using a Simplicity pattern as a sloper. It's made of wool suiting and lined with cotton. In the comic, it's hard to tell exactly what the back of the collar looks like so I made it this almost-sailor collar, which looked better than just continuing the curve all the way around.
-- The pattern on the collar and bias binding is a block print I printed myself. From the comic, it was hard to say if there was meant to be a print or a texture there; I chose print, then couldn't find any pre-made fabrics I liked.
-- The vest is an original design (all I had to worry about was getting those two points at the bottom) made in white suede.
-- The trilobite is made from paperclay and painted with gouache and with black and gold ink.
-- I couldn't find gold buttons in the sizes I wanted and for a good price so I used button-covering kits and shiny gold pleather.
-- The pants are from Land's End. I was going to make them, honest, but I couldn't find heavy enough fabric in the right color, and then these pants were the right color, so I just used them and added buttons.
-- The glasses are from ebay.
-- The boots are from Target. In the comic, Agatha's boots are more like riding boots, but I thought the heel of these was more appropriate for the period, plus, they have gold buttons on the sides. It's hard to tell in the comic if the boots are black or brown and I decided to go with brown.
