Princess Pin up

Character: Completely made up! (Although I'm sure someone somewhere knows a character that looks similar to this design). This was actually supposed to be a fairy costume, but I ran out of time, and didn't have time to do the wings, so now I have embroidered/hand beaded chiffon petals at home, just sitting in a box....

Costume: Wow...what a pain in the backside costume....The design is completely my own, referencing the fantasy works of Nene Thomas and the Venus Ballgown by Christian Dior. The corset was completely made by me. I've never made one before and I made every mistake possible. What I did was buy a cheap corset, take it apart and use it as a template to make the one I've got on. Next time, I'm buying a pattern. The material is satin, is boned, lined and has interfacing inside to give it support. The designs are painted on with Swarovski crystals and glass flower beads hand sewn on. For the skirt, I used Simplicity pattern 4046 for the underskirt area. I took a chiffon typed material from Jo Anns, cut it out in petals, serged the ends, hand sewed on more Swarovski crystals, glass flowers and mother of pearl styled beads.

Final thoughts: It came out so much more cheesecake than I ever intended....but I had fun. I don't normally flaunt myself since I (like almost every woman out there) can see a million and one flaws on myself that others just can't. Overall, it was a hit, and I may have to visit the World Of Cheesecake more often... ;)

I got a lot of guys in trouble with their girlfriends when I showed up. Does that count?
