This is one of those costumes that took a lot of brainpower to plan out. At the time that I made it (more than a few years ago now!), I was still relatively new to a lot of the construction processes that resulted in the costume itself. So while I love some aspects of it, I know there are places where it could be better.
The best to describe this D as an Amano-inspired D, and not a true recreation of any sort, so I looked at a lot of Amano's art to come up with my concept. With that in mind, however, the primary image that influenced a lot of the design was a profile shot of D that I found online. There are many elements of the upper half of the costume that came from that, and the rest of the outfit was designed to compliment it, since there was little more than D's head, shoulders, and chest visible.
It is possible that I might remake D at some point down the road, because of my skill improvements over the years. However, there is a chance it will be not me, but my hubby who dons the hat then. Being well over six foot and able to be quite imposing, I think he'd make an even better D than I did!
