Yay for detailed costumes! Boo for loads of top-stitching! XO Overall, I'm very pleased with the costume.
Anyway, originally, my group and I had planned on entering our FF4 costumes into the Geek.kon Masquerade, so I sketched the designs for all the characters from the tiny, tiny, tiny DS sprites. I got Edward almost completely finished before we switched over to doing Gurren Lagann instead. :/ Not that I don't love my Viral costume or Gurren Lagann as a whole, but MY EFFORT! D: Oh wells, boo-hoo, poor me....
Moving on to construction:
-The hat and belts were the first things I finished and were probably the easiest. The hat's nothing but a cylinder with a bowl around it, but figuring out how to make it look the way I wanted it to took several attempts. And the belts are belts. Nothing more, nothing less.
-The cape and scarf weren't too bothersome. Simple sewing and lots of appliques. Though I do love my cape's lining. It's a gold fabric I found with treble clefs on it. Seeing as he's a bard, that made me go ":D!!!" irl.
-Shirt, jacket, and pants. Again nothing too ground-breaking. Though I do love those pants. Super comfy...
-Finally, the shoes. Painting the shoes (since fuchsia shoes are hard to find go figure...) was easy enough. The armor gave me a bit of trouble since I've never done anything like it before. But yay for learning experience!
-There was also gloves and a harp, but no one cares. :D
