Mesoian the Shinigami

Last Updated: 08-05-2005

I didn't really wanna emulate anyone from the series too closely since they all have rather extreme differences between one another. I thought I would just take different archetypes between each shinigami and put together something of my own. The base will be a Black Hakama and black kimono sleave top. I'll probably add face paint, glasses, earrings and Toji sandles in the future. Haven't decided if I'm going to use a katana or my own specialized weapon for it yet.

Update 2/11/05 - 60% complete. Weaponry and Hakama finished. I'm going to use a pair of Geta Sandals and Tabi socks for footwear. It's not precise, but It's a subtle difference I'm going for in my outfit. I decided to use a black Haori for the top, though I'm having trouble finding a white Juban. Once I find that, It's on to the accessories.

Update 3/4/05 - Kinomo and Juban obtained! (finally!!!). So the core outfit is complete. I've decided to use white plastic chain show off the weaponry as a contrast on the black kimono. I recently purchased a white shinsengumi Haori which I may use, but I haven't decided. I'll take pictures for reference as soon as I get a camera to use.

Piece Setting is hard.

Update - 3/31/05

COMPLETE! The Juban has arrived. I personally think that the juban paired with the kimono looks absolutionly fantastic. I redid the weaponry for the costume, using white plastic chain attached to the kamas. Since I have 15 feet, I plan to have the chain contrast against the black kimono. I have the kimono and juban pinned shut, just in case, but I have a small black strip using as an obi, with a large piece of white material over it to simulate the too large sash in the middle. The sunglasses are finished, rather amusingly. I was planning on breaking out the right glass with a book, but I put it with my video games while transporting them from home to school, and found that the right lens popped out while I wasn't looking. So that makes things easier.

The only thing left to do now is pick up some face paint (though I might just use temporary tattoos) and decide whether or not I want to use the shinsengumi Haori I have or to go reguarly.

8/5/05 - Had someone design a real captain's coat for me. I had the kanji for "Ren" or Zero put on the back so I don't blend with all the other people doing specific captains.
