Butterfly kimono

Last Updated: 02-22-2009

Was at the fabric store when I saw this really cute fabric with butterflies. Thought it would make a good kimono and bought 6 yards of it. After sewing the kimono I decided that some kanzashi would look nice with it as well. I bought the silk and dyed it different shades of pink, purple, and blue using acid dyes. It went fairly well for my first time dyeing fabric. Used a tutorial I found on the Immortal Geisha forums, and it took forever to cut and fold all those teeny squares. The tabi are the same I made for my Koinosuke costume years ago, and I bought the geta at a Japanese mall in NJ. Hardest part of the costume was walking from the hotel to the convention center without hurting myself.
