Mistress of Pain

Diablo III

Last Updated: 08-26-2009

Based on concept art presented at Blizzcon 2008's Diablo 3 area.

Here's a little bit of info about this costume:

I guess planning for this costume started shortly after Blizzcon 2008. I had seen a few concept arts there and eventually decided on the Mistress of Pain.

Because there were only two shots of her available, I made some artistic decisions, in the design.

Construction and completion on this costume went something like this:

- head dress & Mask
- corset (organza, bridal satin, trim and swarovski crystal)
- skirts & hoopskirt (hoopskirt was purchased)
to get the Poof - I used roughly 40yards of tulle. I should have used more like 80 to get the kind of poof that I really wanted.
The dress itself was made from bridal satin.
- sleeves

At this point I hit a snag.. The legs. I must have drawn up and tossed out more than two dozen designs for how the legs would work.. it was such a nightmare.. There came a point where I came up with an idea that would work, but when I tried testing it.. it was a total failure.. Too much weight.

I went back to the drawing board... again.. and decided to finally consult friends on how the legs could be achieved.. After talking to Lindsay and Holly many new ideas were finally starting to bubble up again.. and it was Lindsay who finally pointed me to a source that would ultimately inspire the solution.

Unfortunately, it was so close to con time, that I could neither test the theory or even complete the legs. I sent them out in advance, along with the materials I knew I would need.

The costume in its entirety was truly tested on stage at blizzcon. Like I told many people, I wasn't praying to win, I was praying to make it across the stage without falling to pieces.

so thats the story about the legs..

The abdomen was made from two materials.. 1 giant beach ball and some batting. seriously..that was it was incredibly light weight.

The teeth were purchased through vampfangs website. They are the Veneers from Dental Distortions. Pricey but worth the money.

And that's pretty much it. I owe a HUUUUUUGE debt of gratitude to my buddies Lindsay, Andrew, Ryan and Chris for their assistance. Without these great peoples, I would have looked incomplete.

Another HUGE thanks to everyone for their wonderful comments, support and love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I'm truly honored and love you all ^_^
