Description
Haine is most definitely my favourite character out of all of Arina Tanemura's mangas. Of course being one of Tanemura's characters she has to have many different pretty outfits, this ball gown being one of them! The second I saw her ball gown I knew I just HAD to make it! I didn't have the skill when I first laid eyes on it though and I wanted it perfect so I waited until I DID have the skill, which is now! >8D

This was certainly a big challenge - I put a helluva lot of effort into this cosplay. And it is a MONEY EATER! Therefore I shall be re-wearing this lots~ [Especially if there's going to be a Shizumasa/Takanari at any Expo/Cons I go too ohohohoho!]
I started off with the hoop skirt and petticoat and made the blue underskirt with the funny shaped train she has - it's more rectangular shaped than circular so it was a tad confusing to work with! At first I used the shiny side but in the end caved and redid it so that it was on the matte side of the satin because my gosh that was hideously shiny, however the matte side still has sparkle to it and it's lovely!
Secondly I made the white overskirt and added elastic to the top. I then arranged the folds and sewed them in place. Ribbons and roses were sewn on afterwards.
The bodice was made using McCalls 5321 pattern I bought in the previous year and then double layered so that it's stronger - I then attached the overskirt to the bodice.
I bought a couple of necklaces with lots of chains attached from Primark for £1.50 each and basically took apart all accessories and attached pearls onto the chains. The silver part of the necklace was made from Model Magic painted in Acrylic. All this was attached with non-stretch beading wire and the silver pendant was reinforced with hot glue. The straps were made from ribbon and chains attached - it was hard distinguishing what the ribbon was attached to! Since I had the chains already I used that~
Gloves were bought online, shoes were from Shoe Zone.
Each pearl was individually strung onto non-stretch beading wire and it made me lose quite a bit of my sanity unfortunately! They were VERY heavy though and it made the dress fall apart, thank God the bodice was extra tight X_x
Wig was bought and the curls were styled by twisting it slightly then curling it and I used blonde hair grips to keep them in place. The pompoms were glued onto blonde hair grips so that they would be easily detachable whenever I wanted to brush out the wig!
Overall I do love the costume - there were many faults that I know I could improve. The straps caused me much stress because the pearls weighed them down so much that it made them snap constantly which made me go moody myself X_x; I haven't sussed out how to keep everything stable but once I do I will be wearing this costume out more~ Mainly because I love the wig so much LOL.
