I fell in love with Rue soon as I finished the Tutu series, and swore to make one of her outfits, however simple. I jumped on the opportunity to make her favorite practice outfit of mine when a Tutu group was planned for Fanime. The red leotard was made in a day, using my own method of trial and error due to losing my patterns. The frills on the shoulders were hand gathered with a thick layer of interfacing to keep the shape. I opted for a pair of practice ballet slippers instead of dishing out the dough for real red en pointe shoes, since as a ballerina, she would use them anyway.
