Autumn Fairy

Last Updated: 03-09-2005

My cousin asked me to make her a fairy costume for Ren Faire. I agreed, having way too much free time on my hands :P. She drew me a picture of what she wanted. I took a few liberties but 90% of it is her idea.

The top is a deep red baroque satin. She was on a budget -- that's the ONLY reason I used such an evil fabric! Unfortunately we're paying for it now, since the top is not holding together well. There's crescent-shaped embroidery stitching on the sleeves, made from gradient-dyed thread, but of course you can't see it >.<. The back laces up with a cord of the same color.

The drop sleeves are made out of this beautiful sheer, shimmery material my cousin and I fell in love with at Joann *_*. It looks like an iridescent, transparent velvet IRL. They are detachable; the top buttons on and the bottom is tied by ribbons. The fabric was shell-stitched on the edges.

The skirt is black crepe satin (much nicer than baroque satin!) with two slits up the front to allow for more comfortable walking. The same crescent-shaped embroidery stitch is on the hem and slits, and the skirt is overlaid with triangle-shaped pieces of that shimmery sleeve material. It's shell-stitched the same way and looks very much like falling leaves ^^.

+ The wings were purchased at Ren Faire.
