Description

We wanted a new light-wear costume to go to In-ConJunction (which is an in-town con for us). The retro 1970s style of MVS seemed a good match for the more mature sci-fi and fantasy audience, and it fit especially well with this year's con theme of time travel.

There are so many characters to choose from in MVS, but at last we narrowed down our three: Youko, the Space Amazon; Mayeri, the assassin with the cool rocket boots; and O. Rick, the assassin-pimp/informant guy who plays all sides. Our costumes were made in two days -- not quite a record for us (our shortest turnaround is 15 minutes), but certainly faster than the majority of our projects!

Details:

I painted and fletched my own arrow for Youko, and even added paint lines to simulate motion blur. ^_^ The bow is an antique York Archery piece that belonged to my grandfather (it's strung backwards; it's too brittle to string correctly). I used a white fox face for that weird wolf-thing she has on the front of her bodice, and her wolf mask is an Alaskan brush wolf face that I made into a mask. (All the real fur I used in the costume was sustainably harvested from wild stock, and the bustier and armband are made of synthetic fur. Please don't flame me.)

If I'd had more time, I could have finished the electronics to make Mayeri's FIR ray gun light up (the pistol grip is hollow and translucent so it can glow). It also would have been neat to make the flame boots look more like her rocket blasters, but we did what we could in the time we had...
