BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

Last Updated: 10-25-2010

Weeeell, my first choice for a Blazblue cosplay was actually Taokaka at first, but as I am well aware that I am horribly pasty-white and the mechanics of her claws and such were a little much for me right now- not to mention I've already done a halfnaked catgirl so recently LOL. So I went looking through the side-characters again, and found Kokonoe- instantly fell in love. So I decided I'd like to cosplay her instead.

This is probably the most.. involved costume I've done to date, with how many bits and pieces and details there are to it. I'm learning quite a bit in the process, too. XD

The wig is a stubbed Clover-L in Light pink (my first stubbed wig!) with an ebay-bought ponytail clip shoved onto the stub- there's about 5 T-pins shoved into the stub to help the structural integrity of the little 'wings' coming off the top of the ponytail, and the hair ribbon helps as well.

The coat is modified from the body of a Butterick pattern (B4929) that I then slowly tapered to the side seams to get the bared belly look and is made from poplin. The sleeves... I was going to start with kimono sleeve patterns, but eventually, me and my mom's friend I was picking at the coat with decided to just draft the sleeves ourselves through trial and error, and eventually got the shape we did. The 'paws' have a layer of upholstery foam inserted and then the entire sleeve was lined. They're basically big ol' pillows XD
(In the character design, it seems like the sleeve is inserted with the seams at a 90 degree angle from how they SHOULD be, with seams on the front and back instead of top and bottom. Sigh, character designers.)
The details on the sleeves are made of foamie pieces and are hotglued on, lol.

The bangles are sealed styrofoam wreath-base rings with a few coats of gold acrylic. I'd like to remake/pick at them some more to get the shape more accurate.

The pants are modified Dickies. I'm not totally happy with the hem shape, but the art is a bit conflicting and uh. Impossible to be right from both the front AND side views. I'll have to finagle a little more.

The shoes were bought online and had the backs removed, then the toes were painted and an extra strap added over the bridge of the foot with vinyl bias tape.

I've gone through like a million makeup tests to find the right kind of mascara combo to get my lashes to be light pink like hers. Still working on that, I found a mascara that shows up... but clumps. So I need to brush it out really well, lol. Even though my lashes'll prolly go unnoticed because of the longish bangs and the **2** sets of EYEBROWS I also have to color also and ughhhh. Details.

The tail and ears are "Cuddles" faux fur from Mendels. Tail has a wire infrastructure and attaches to the belt through the coat (but it's being a real pain in the ass about standing up, so... I'll have to see what I can do). The bell on the belt has the design made from cut sheet brass and is cemented on, still fully functional.

(Note, the eyes in my icon are shooped XD; I'm too much of a wuss to wear contacts.)
