Princess Tutu

I loved this costume and hope to wear it again. There was a ton of work, research, and ugh math that went into this costume. The tutu is made of 10 layers of tulle decreasing in width and length the closer they get to the body. All hand gathered then machine stitched onto a lycra panty which I made from scratch even down to the bais holding in the elastic. I also added ruffles for cuteness. The basque and the bodice were silk dupointe and lined with 100% cotton twill for stability then serged all the pieces together. For both pieces I made bias tape then added cording for even more stability. The basque has an elastic waist for comfort. The bodice has boning to help maintain the proper shape. I had to fit and re-fit this several times before I got it perfect. I used hooks and eyes for closure points. The outter skirt I had no pattern for so I created my own supersized compass. The wig was blonde that I hand sharped the whole thing with pink and peach to try and get the right color. Then I sewed batting to the wig and glued all kinds of feathers on. The crown was model magic spray painted gold. The necklace was a wire frame that I added red gems too and built up with sculpy. The butterfly I made a model, then a mold, then poured in clear resin. The wings were a wire frame covered with sparkly tulle and nailed into a wooden dowel. Then covered in the silk material, then velcro and snaps to hold in super tight while I danced in it.
