This costume is based off of my Priestess character in the RPG Ragnarok Online ^____^. My main character is actually a Dancer, which I was planning on Cosplaying, but due to some boyfriend jealousy issues and pointlessness in masquerade skits, I decided to switch to cossing my beloved Priestess-chan, Freyah <3 <3.
The RO Priestess is one of the more common characters cosplayed from Ragnarok, so I tried to make mine extra purday <3. I based the costume off the in-game sprite rather than the character art, because that is the version that I see while I am playing as the character... beside, purple priestesses are so much cuter than the boring black ones, XD.
For the main part of the dress, I used a pattern for one of those chinese-style dresses... y'know, the ones made out of satin with the gorgeous gold needle work. Like that ^^. That style of dress is very flattering, not to mention it has the huge slit up the sides~! (I made my slits even higher than the pattern called for... *saucy*). For the sleeves I used a brides maid's dress pattern that happened to have the exact poofy shoulders and slender arms that I was looking for. Quite convenient. I used velvet for this part of the dress, because I wanted to use something luxurious, but not shiny... XD. (Satin + Ragnarok Cosplay = </3)
I lined the entire inside of the dress with just your generic burgandy lining. I used the same burgandy fabric for the sleeve cuffs, which were lined with duck cloth (for uber stiffness~!) The white habit/collar thingy is also lined with duck cloth, and is a seperate peice from the rest of the dress (which is implied in the character art, but oft overlooked, I think). I used the white fabric from Joannes Fabric's casa collection for the collar, so it pairs nicely with the velvet ^^.
The gold trimmings on the shoulders and cuffs are foamies spray painted gold (gawd, I <3 foamies~!). The ribbon lining the edge of the slit is also spray painted so it would be the EXACT same color as the rest of the trimmings, lol ^^. *is way too picky*. The loafers are also covered with foamies painted silver.
I submitted this costume along with my Ragnarok Wedding Gown to the ghetto IRO Cosplay Contest as a sort of last-minute entry... I wasn't sure if I'd have it actually done on time, lol. This costume will truly be debuted, however in my first EVAR masquerade perfomance at FanimeCon 2005~! Viva The Underground Cosplay Group~! /bawi
