This was an original lolita with the heroines from my favourite Ghibli movies appliqued and embroidered across the hem. I love these characters, but am not an appropriate age to cosplay most of them and also couldn't decide between them all. I wanted to do something different as well that would be a challenge but fun and easy to wear with a small baby in my arms.
My daughter's dress coordinated with mine and had the opening credits of My Neighbour Totoro appliqued across the hem. Hers was actually the initial concept for both dresses and was an idea my husband came up with. He asked me to make her a dress with bugs. But not pretty bugs-- he wanted a dress with bugs and things "like from Totoro".
