Description

The first costume I ever did was this one and it sucked. So for the longest time I've wanted to redo it and I finally found the time and will to do so. There's still a lot I need to tweak but so far its coming along.

The wig is my Advent Children wig (which I thought could go alright since they've been making his spikes less crazy these days anyways) which I'm still not sure if it works for this or not. I'm going to attempt to get it restyled a bit before the next con and if it still doesn't work, get a new one that's a bit more like the original hairstyle.

The shirt is the only thing I didn't make here and also the only part of the original attempt of this costume actually worth using.

The pants are made of a bottomweight fabric (Rodeo something I think?) and have a fully functional zipper fly and pockets. I also made sure to make them wide enough to do the whole bunched up look he has going on which was accomplished just by tucking the ends into the boots.

The boots were made using a pair of cheap crooks which I used as the base and then used a thin vinyl-like fabric to cover them, making the top portion double sided so I could then flip the tops down. Couldn't find any silver metal zippers so went with the gray plastic ones.

I made the gloves. All freaking 4 of them. There are two layers on both hands. The metal piece on the right hand is a simple piece of plastic styrene. The gauntlet on the left hand was made using a foam base covered in layers of styrene and craft foam in between to give it thickness. It comes on and off with velcro. The spikes are from a wooden dowel I cut up.

The belt is made of vinyl. A very nice vinyl might I add that I found for 50% off that was insanely nice to work with and has a lovely texture. Too bad I can't afford it when its regular price. There are two layers of vinyl that were sewn together and then I used silver pleather to create the "bias" tape around the edges which I used the stitch-in-the-ditch method so the stitching on the front wouldn't show. And then the rest of the designs on there were glued on. All the straps snap on and off from the belt and all that was made out of the same vinyl.

The shoulder armor is several layers of model magic and paper clay on top of half of a deflated beach ball I used as a base. I started off with model magic but then went to paper clay as I like the way that smooths down better for the top layer. Did a lot of sanding, glued bolts on, and spray painted.

Then there's the sword. Oh my beloved sword. It started as piece of light industrial foam that was sanded down. Because it was so light though, I was afraid it's snap in half so I then covered the entire thing in plastic styrene. The hilt is made of wood and the handle is a wooden dowel that was cut down and inserted.
