Sleeping Beauty's Mom
Last Updated: 08-09-2009
So I've always loved Sleeping Beauty, and swore I was going to make her blue dress one day. Well I put it off so long that one day seemed to go out the window the year I was going to turn Thirty; after all there's no way I could be a convincing 15 going on 16 year old then. But I still loved the movie, and really wanted to make a costume from it.
So, re-watching it I noticed that unlike every other Disney Princess movie Aurora gets something no one else does...her mom. Not a step-mom, her actual mother. That was it! I would be the one surviving Disney Princess mom.
I was very lucky in the fact that I live about thirty minutes from Denver Fabrics, and found the perfect colors for everything. The cape and over dress are made from the same material, just different colors and different sides faced out. I did what i rarely ever do and didn't line anything, but I didn't want to weigh it down. This catches the wind so beautifully. And like most of my costumes we have a lovely hat, or in this case crown, that on it's premiere night out got stolen, only to return to me the next day.
I love this outfit, it pairs my love of cosplay with my love of SCAdian type outfits. The only thing I have left to do is add in Mom's signature up-swept bangs, and then she shall be perfect!
