Codex from the Do You Wanna Date My Avatar music video by The Guild. I debuted this costume right after the video came out, so I had to rush to make it in about 3 weeks, while also making a good chunk of Zaboo, Bladezz, and consulting on Tink (not to mention finishing the non-Guild costumes I had for the con).
For the shoulders, bracers, and front corset panel, I used craft foam covered in fabric. The top was a bra sewn to a tank top and covered with several layers to get the striped look on the cups (I found a white textured sweater and then used a smooth white fabric over that, so it was three layers). The front of the tank top was cut off so the back remained, and the part under the bra, because you can see she has fabric between the bottom of the bra and the top of the corset. The skirt was made from Casa collection fabrics from Joann's--a solid white crepe, and a sheer organza--and two white slips that I trimmed to size so the camera flashes wouldn't make it all see through. Everything was trimmed with gold ribbon.
The kneepads were covered with fabric. The corset was one I already had but it had solid panels and floral panels. I found a fabric that matched the solid panels pretty well and sewed pieces over the striped panels so the whole thing would appear solid.
The shoes were thrifted and ribbon was added.
The necklace was made from a plain collar necklace I searched and searched for and finally found in a thrift store. The square charms were buttons that I hollowed out with a Dremel tool for about an hour and a half and glued all the rhinestones on by hand. The headband was from The Icing. I added the jewels.
The staff was made by a friend because I ran out of time. It was PVC pipe, plastic, and a large ornament from Hobby Lobby. The jewel on the bottom is actually a bouncy ball filled with purple glitter, which I loved!
Felicia Day let us come on stage during her panel, and tweeted a pic of her with us. Does that count? :)
Also entered the Whedonverse track costume contest at Dragon*Con 2009 and won Best Original Costume (i.e. not Firefly, Buffy, Dr. Horrible, etc.)
